Game is NOT GOOD
Here’s an honest review..
The idea of this game is great BUT the actual gameplay is horrendous. There’s such strong underlay for in app purchases it’s painfully annoying. I was bored after a day of gameplay and I really wanted to play it more but I just can’t.
This game needs some serious optimization, and player input for gameplay overhaul.

Good game but a lot to improve
This is a really great game but there are some issues. I wrote down what they are specifically because they would be REALLY easy to fix, hoping some developper may read this and address the issues:
1)The green gems (got it you guys need to earn money too) should be used only for advantage, not for limiting parts of the game. Right now you can only get them as story rewards and they are used for buildings as important as the trading center. You can’t play the game as FTP basically.
2)The insane amount of commerce buildings and the inability to understand which building is which on the gray icon/sketch map makes it very hard to trace which ones are needed where. Instead of putting the amphora picture on them, put a specific icon (ie barley or a G for grain store, porkchop or a B for the butcher) so they are recognizable. They should also have green/red shared highlights like the municipality buildings when you click on one type of building.
3)The building effect zones should be marked more clearly. The white indentetions right now on the gray sketch map are UNDER the building markings (grey squares) so you can’t understand if it will work or not unless you can count the squares yourself. They should also work when the place you think about putting a particular service building is occupied (often you need to move some other thing to add the service buildings anyway as you progress through the campaign).
4)The population requirements and development speed mid game is too high, and the natural resource spots are scarce. So you end up building a million unnecessary agriculture buildings to keep the population busy, generating a surplus, which you cannot sell that easily in the trader cause it works with a very low limit and like a stock exchange. There should be a way to balance the population size and economy better, at least a better way to get rid of excess produce.
5)The army system is weird, right now you can’t combine different troop types (like archers and spearmen) in one army unit. The stars to research army units are also impossible to accumulate (takes a million gold to get a single star…)
6)Half the research tree doesn’t make any difference. I understand that the “olympics” is specific to Greeks but you either need to change it for the other civilizations OR if you research that as the Persians you should get smth (for example a 1% bonus to taxation or happiness)
7)The game needs a lot of “i” (information) pop ups/buttons to click and tell us what an item does. We are exploring in the dark figuring what the rules are as we play cause there are very few explanations.
8)It is not clear how the general management building works in keeping the population from rebelling, what should be covered by it etc. Same with decorations/industrial buildings, what are their zones of influence, how much do they affect?
9) minor issue but… Wood! Everything requires wood (especially as industrial fuel) but you cannot get enough of it cause the forest areas are limited. Perhaps a good idea wood be to make it possible to raise those building levels so that they produce more per hour rather than having hard caps. Right now the market made it 600% more expensive than any other product because of this scarcity.
10) obviously people should be able to create more than a single city, I assume that’s just a bug that will be fixed at some point

DO NOT PLAY!!
My game has crashed.. been like it over a week now. Can’t get any help from anyone and I’ve sent emails. I’ve spent real money on this game and it was a waste! People just don’t care and don’t want to help!

Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom
If you’re looking for a way to play AOE on your iPhone, this is it.
It’s not too fancy, and you have the choice of playing levels with tasks or “sandbox” mode.
My biggest issue is the inability to build a market square that services a particular area, rather than really struggling to get all the little shops placed.
Otherwise, enjoy this relaxing little game 🐉

My type of long awaited game
I really enjoyed the old PC game age of Empires and have been waiting years for something similar. I hate all the modern games where you have no flexibility on where to place your builds, but this game allows all that. I have also never been one for fighting wars (which is what all the modern games are about) where as with this game you simply build. It is not always so easy and you really have to think about structure and layout.
This games is fairly new (judging by the version number), so no doubt there are many improvements on the way. There are a few things that are a bit glitchy (like adding friends and switching between cities), but I am sure the Dev team will sort that all out soon. Can’t wait to see what new cities get added in future too. I will happily pay a small fee to unlock these.
Keep up the good work!

I like it….
Really nice game. With the exception of the combat it has a nostalgic AOE feel to it; a game I wish someone would remaster or make a modern day sequel to. Game mechanics are fine I would recommend the guided build first even though it’s easy to get ahead of yourself the game does a good job of preventing you from doing this which for people new to city builders like this would be helpful because the idea is to keep balance between the happiness of your people while you build not getting over populated or underpopulated with empty buildings.
I would like to see some further content such as better chat system to see who all is online it’s hard to tell. Also a free finish button for when builds are under 5 min would be a nice touch. Either that that I’m taking my time and enjoying myself. Thank you.

Not all that great
The game stops at lvl 9 and you can’t proceed past that. I have been stuck there for 4 days. The houses only fill to 14/16 and I can’t get any farther. Time to delete the app.
I recommend everyone to download and have a look!
It seems pretty good! ! Easy to use,
