Calories, Claims, and Quips: A Reflective Ramble 🐢
One issue I noticed is that exercise and steps do not adjust the total calorie allowance. I believe this should be accounted for, as increased activity on some days means you would need more calories.
On a positive note, I appreciate the evening reflection and gratitude practice features, along with the focus on one big achievement. The layout of the app is also well-designed and user-friendly.
However, I think there should be a free version that allows basic calorie tracking. Alternatively, introducing different pricing tiers could make the app more accessible and affordable.
In conclusion, while the app has several attractive features and a good layout, it falls short in terms of calorie management and affordability. With some adjustments, it could become a more competitive and user-friendly option.
Response from developer
Thank you for the review. Your steps and exercise are accounted for, we ask on the initial questionnaire how many times you workout on avg per week, and it goes into your activity calculations. We then look at your average energy expenditure over a week, so we don't need to deal with it day to day. This is a more accurate way to go about things, as most apps (like MFP) allow you to eat back cals burned via exercise. The issue with this is 1) cals burned on trackers most of the time overestimates cals burned 2) it doesn't take into consideration energy compensation which means 70% of cals burned via exercise is only net burned that day. The body downregulates. So we have a calculation that figures out your avg activity level, and we take those things into account, so we give you one simple target to hit on avg for the week with calories. So on the surface it may look like we've omitted a key feature, but one major issue with most apps is the eating back cals from exercise. We break that link, so users can focus on workouts for performance & health benefits, while our weekly check-in algorithm manages their targets and makes adjustments if needed. MFP doesn't have this dynamic feature that essentially coaches you.
