  • There’s potential, but still a work in progress.

It’s a cool app, it emulates the legendary SP1200 workflow and sound pretty well. Get it if you really want that classic boom-bap sound from early 90s. Think Pete Rock, Large Professor, DJ Premier, etc. But be aware of it’s limitations. Like other comments have mention, it can be kind of buggy. For reference, I’m on an iPad Pro 10.5. There is a bit of latency with tapping on pads. Not a ton, but it’s noticeable. There’s also some sound dropping out when I try to play a pad over a sequenced loop. For example, I have a snare and hat looping and when I play a kick, the kick mutes my recorded snare and hat while I perform. On playback it sounds fine however. It makes sequencing a beat frustrating. It’s pretty bare-bone in terms of modern features. No Audiobus or AUv3 support. Also, make sure to save your project before closing the app as there is no auto-save option. Lastly, the workflow of an SP-1200 is kind of clunky. But that’s not the fault of the app developer. There are quick tips that help, but I found myself looking up how to use the app. Just mentioning this for new users who are used to modern iOS samplers like Koala or Samplr. I would wait to purchase this app until the developer updates some of software and audio issues. Or wait until the price drops. $14 is pretty steep when comparing it to Koala that is about $9 with all its upgrades.

  • Just make sure you select NO when apple asks to use microphone audio!

I previously left a no so good review BUT…..after I tried it and selected ‘no’ when asked to use microphone, I’m back exited about the app! The sound was always there imho but now I’ll map my Akai LPD8 for the perfect controller.

    Got my iPad boombaptized ;-)

I’ll post some beats to my IG @dragonfly_bry

  • Not ready

Major latency and when you change skins, everything freezes. Restarting didn’t unfreeze it. Had to uninstall and reinstall to get it working at it’s normal lagging latency. Refund requested.
  • Revised - Should’ve payed attention to Reviews

I seen some videos of people using this app on IG so I though I’d buy it. I have the desktop version I thought I was going to give the benefit of the doubt on this one but I was burned. I’m running a 2nd gen 11” Pro iOS 15.1 and am not getting any sound at all. I’ve tried reaching out to the dev. but no luck on a response.I’ll gladly change the rating and give a follow up if there’s an update that resolves this massive issue.

    Revised!!!!!
Now that the app has been updated everything is running super smooth and sounds amazing! This app does stay true to the SP1200 and the iconic “ring” in the “Sweet Spot” on Tune.
    Very well done 👌
I can’t wait to keep digging in this app, great work!

  • ......

Bruv I been waiting bloody ages for this.. I bought the license as soon as it came out for pc and instantly bought the iPad app... so this is basically useless to make beats but it does sound great.. so if I could only work out where the sample is being exported to.. for now I’ll be screen recording then importing into koala sampler.. a well programmed app but not as nice sounding as the eSPi.. Also please make this compatible with AUM, that will save this app from its doom as at least it can be resampled and used else where till you figure out the meat and potatoes

I’m sure with updates and fixes this is going to be a fine app but how long is this going to take...

  • Espi

Sounds don’t play saved a song only to find it not there also have to keep turning iPad off then on again to hear sounds bit disappointed for the money was really looking forward to this
  • Dope

After playing with it for 30 min, this is nice. Don’t sleep. The lofi is nice, swing, ect.. I haven’t tried the export yet. If you are a true sp head, you will appreciate the app. It’s worth the $!
  • Not complete but thx for dropping

I agree with some other reviews i think they put it out useable but still needs work! I want to be able to assign midi Bluetooth too or learn function for controller assignment. will change my review after a few things are implemented/complete!
  • Pretty buggy for a open release

Some of the functions don’t seem to be here yet. This app has potential but for the intro price of 13.99 I feel a little robbed to be feeling like a beta tester. Hoping that the development keeps moving forward and keeps getting better
  • Nothing works

I paid $13 and I can’t load a saved project. I can’t copy bars because when I hit yes to confirm, it changes the value. What this app will do is let you know if you want to invest 4grand for an actual SP1200. S2400 is definitely the way to go.
