iOS 18 is not okay
I’ve never written a review before, but my phone just updated to iOS 18, and now I am so full of hatred for it because navigating the photos app is absolutely impossible. Before the update, there were tabs that were so user friendly and easy to organize for yourself. Now, everything is on one page, and you have to endlessly scroll in order to find anything. Also, scrolling through the app isn’t even easy since the the app will pause at certain spots, probably to stop at the different “regions” that would have normally been under different tabs, but it just makes the whole experience clunky and almost glitchy. It treats the albums you create as if they don’t matter, and it’s so hard to find them. It’s so frustrating because in a way it can be considered not disability friendly. I say this because the text and photos are so much smaller and it’s hard to read because of it. You can no longer adjust the number of photos per row so that the pictures are bigger or smaller, or if you can, the settings are not clear enough to understand. Overall, this is by far the worst apple update I’ve ever seen in my life. In all other updates, there have been some sort of positive change that outweighs the negative, but this one has only been a huge step back in the name of unnecessary “progress”.

Why does touching it make it tiny every time
Echoing others here; this app was better before. Bought a new phone that came preinstalled with iOS 18. Trying to get used to it, but what’s driving me nuts at the moment is the videos— I hate this “tiny” mode thing it does now instead of filling the whole screen by default and showing controls around the edges like it did previously. If I have a video in full screen but need to scrub backwards for a previous part (I do this often when learning dances for class), I have to tap the screen twice every time, otherwise it goes back into tiny picture mode. I can’t imagine a reason why this app got worse than it was.
I’m also not a fan of the full scroll screen thing; that’s just kind of stupid. After being conditioned to use computer files that get compartmentalized into folders for decades, why on Earth would it feel smarter to put everything into one long scroll?? Who wrote this??

Why did you update
The new update is sooo not user friendly and it makes it so frustrating to use photos. If I’m looking through a bunch of photos I can’t quickly reference back to an album or recently deleted without losing my spot. Having to scroll all the way down to access albums everytime makes for a very frustrating experience. It’s so impractical and I don’t know why you would’ve changed it. Please please change it back. The previous version was seamless and didn’t need changing.

The worst update ever
The new camera button on 16 pro is hard to control.
There is little space available on the screen when editing photos.
The 16:9 format often doesn’t remain on the screen so that photos go to full screen losing focus, information and layout.
Photos in the library are stored in twelve categories that are extremely annoying like “Memories”, “Wallpaper Suggestions”.
Slideshows that worked particularly well now have been replaced by an animated annoying show that loses layout, cannot be adjusted for speed and makes slideshows impossible on 16:9 TVs.
There is little space available on the screen when editing photos.

I deleted my first comment to give you the benefit of the doubt
The app has honestly been nuked I can’t even work and edit as a content creator anymore. The app disign is horrible. For starters the movie featured when you are in and Album. For the love of god at least put it in the settings to turn that whole thing off and make it go away. I’m trying to work on an album and it just gets in the way everytime time and I have to exit the album. It sends me into move mode every other minute and I’m sick of it. This whole phone design iv loved for decade because of how easy it is to navigate and simplicity. You made the photos app some google photos garbage and made it impossible for content creators. The search feature needs to be a separate page being able to multi task and look at multiple pages at once you’ve backtracked putting it all on one page. I’m so tired of it honestly. I hate how the albums look now like I can’t believe this was approved and everyone is just going along with it like nothing is wrong. I should’ve gotten all my work done before updating the iOS I wish everyday I never updated it. I have never thought about switching from apple ever in my life. But this app design is beyond trash I will never update the iOS agin and when my phone breaks I probably won’t buy another iPhone agin

Ok kinda
I love how photos have all my pictures and screenshots saved but it gets a bit annoying right after you almost hit the storage full peak. It keeps asking me to clear out my storage and it doesn’t save my photos it also doesn’t let me take photos when the storage is full. This may be my problem but whatever.

New iOS 18 Update is awful for videos & made worse by Apples accessibility features
The new photo gallery with IOS 18 is so clunky, and it’s made even worse by the fact that I have to use the accessibility settings to make my text larger to accommodate to my needs.
There is now a border around the sides of video/photos, giving them rounded corners. The top header saying the date is huge, and now the bottom footer not only shows the other pictures in your camera roll, but now has the share buttons permanently below it taking up even more space. The video now takes up only about 80% of the screen, and looks like it’s been zoomed out from the centre.
I don’t understand who thought it was a good idea to make videos/photos appear smaller by default, alongside everything else that was unnecessarily changed in this update.

iOS 18: Fix the following and there will be fewer complaints
1. The thumbnails of photos in albums have rounded corners and larger gaps in dark mode, but not in light mode. Please make all albums look like the Library: thin gaps and no rounded corners.
2. The newest photos are at the bottom of the Library, but in all other albums the newest photos are at the top. This is very inconsistent and looks unprofessional.
3. When a new photo is added, it always goes to the bottom right corner in the Library, making all items above it shift one item to the left. It’s extremely annoying because photos are constantly moving, making them hard to find.
4. Videos cannot be paused or played in full screen mode. This is such an inconvenience.
Apple, please listen to what users are saying. I understand it’s your urge to come up with something new, but please don’t sacrifice user friendliness for those new ideas and ruin your good name.

Terrible, unusable update to perfectly fine older version
Jumbled UI, even after customizing to bare basics. Main camera roll scrolls one way but hidden and deleted folders scroll the opposite way…very confusing and unintuitive. Takes 4 clicks to get to favorites folder. What’s the point of having favorited photos for quick reference when it’s not quick reference anymore?
