Needs more features

Overall for what it does, cant complain much. What it lacks are toggling certain notifications.
So your smoker will fluctuate turning off and on (i have the 710 wifi) and every 10-20 mins the app gives me a critical warning that it finally got to temperature. I dont need that going off a million times as it fluctuates. They need to add a toggle so you can turn that off SPECIFICALLY, but also add new ones. A new one for ONLY the thermometers would be amazing. I also think, a more critical notification should be added. “Your smoker is no longer detected” or “check your smoker for power” because a breaker tripped during the night and I had no way of knowing. But rest assured, itll keep u up telling you your desired temperature has been reached.

Meh

App is good except it keeps signing me out

The grill works great, but…

I love the grill. It works really well. I love the charcoal and wood mix that you can put in there and cook some really good smoked meat, but to be honest, the app will sometimes not recognize my Wi-Fi connection. To get it to work again I had to completely delete the grill and add it back on. The process does not take a long time so that is good but I shouldn’t have to delete and recreate my grill to get back online. Also deleting your grill deletes all the previous cooking data so that’s not good. Another issue is when I want to change the cooking temperature it will sometimes appear in Celsius. When that happens I have to close the temperature window and open it back up until it changes to Fahrenheit. This sometimes requires multiple attempts. These little bugs have been present since I but the grill a couple months ago.

Recommend Temperature

Don’t trust the recommended internal temperature. It’s waaaaaaay off. It has options for rare and medium rare chicken. Pork shoulder has the same. Well done 66c. The Celsius option you can only go up by random 5 degrees. Say I want 96. I’ve got the option of 93 or 98.

Absolute garbage app

Between the MB1050's inability to stay connected to perfectly good WiFi and the app's shocking quality I cannot recommend folk consider this kit.

Smoker Great App Not So Much

This smoker is so versatile and so fun to use. Every chance I get I try to use it. I appreciate how fast it comes up to desired temp, how even the cook is every time, and how a novice pit master or a expert can experience grilling as if they had grilled/smoked for ages.

The app however never works. I think the very first month I got it (July 2022) it worked and made this purchase well worth it. But maybe after that, I could never get it to work. The app can detect my grill but doesn’t show me data and statistics as it should. It doesn’t pick up on the prob to temp meat. I’ve tried deleting the app and reinstalling, and I’ve tried removing the machine and reinstalling several times. At this point I’ve given up on it working. I do hate that that’s part of what I paid for when I bought the product and it doesn’t work. Maybe don’t sell it as a service all together if the product is faulty or doesn’t work…

The WiFi smoker is great, but the app is so-so…

I have no idea why the smoker shows in the app as connected, yet there are no readings displayed AND the app says to push the power button on the smoker to “activate the remote.” That’s illogical in the extreme. It does me no good to know the smoker is connected, yet have no information displayed. And, if the smoker is connected, why not display the various temperatures?

None of my other bbq temperature controllers have this issue. If they’re on, they’re displaying the info I need.

Developers: If you want to see how to do it right, purchase a SmartFire controller. They’re for charcoal barbecue’s, but the app design is excellent and there’s no nonsense about pushing buttons to connect. If it’s a hardware or software issue in the Masterbuilt controller, it’s a bit harder to fix, but seriously…

Constant issues

I have a gravity series 1050 smoker. Nearly every single time I use it I have to delete my smoker and completely reinstall it in the app. Masterbuilt has sent me two different modules with the Wi-Fi antenna and I continue to have the issues so it has to be with this app on the rare occasion the app does work, once I get in the app there is a small square in the middle of the screen that will not go away. It looks like a button, but it does nothing when I try to set the temperature in the app. It works maybe 10% of the time if I’m lucky, there are a lot of opportunities with this. I’ve deleted the app re-downloaded it, make sure it’s consistently up-to-date, made sure there were no network issues, made sure that my phone and were on the same wireless network and the issues continue. Theoretically, this would be great, but the reliability of it is very poor. The actual smoker works great, but one of the reasons that I went and got it was because of the option of having the app and being able to be remote and control it in the first place. because of the issues with remote connectivity, even when I’m standing right next to it, I cannot recommend anyone by a Masterbuilt smoker if this is something that they are looking for because it is not reliable at all and has given me nothing but issues.

Timer on app does not update with smoker, app crashes and looses connection.

Finding that the timer in app gets ‘stuck’ and cannot reliably use to time your cook remotely. Also found that the app will loose connection during a smoke and cannot re-connect. This is a software issue, hardware of the bbq is great, and my rating reflects the app only. Please fix!
