  • Great app

This app not only has guided me along my gestational diabetes journey, but has been a great tool at keeping my pregnancy brain on track. Cannot recommend this app more. Friendly reminder mamas gestational diabetes is not cause by your eating habits, you did not cause it. This is not something you did to yourself, but this app will help you navigate your way along this journey.
  • It became my everyday app for GDM

Once I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, I was having a challenging time with the upkeep of controlling and restricting carbs, being on time with reading my glucose monitor, and all the things you have to think about GD. This app truly helped me with all the resources you can find in it. Tracking all my food and my blood sugar levels have been less of a burden with this app. Highly recommended to anyone diagnosed with GDM.
  • Best App for Tracking Your Meals & Sugars

Honestly, I never write AppStore reviews but Malama deserves a shoutout. The fact this app is still in beta and yet is so useful speaks volumes about the team that manages it, and I can’t wait to see what they have planned for the future of the app.

It’s very easy to use, as it fits with where you are in your day—whether you’ve just woken up, are about to eat, or have already eaten, it meets you where you are and guides you (with helpful push notifications) to log your meals and glucose—and medication, if you use insulin…which I don’t, but felt I should me then that feature, too—along the way. It’s perfect!
  • Made gestational diabetes feel manageable

My diagnosis seemed totally overwhelming at first, but this app makes dealing with all the tracking much more manageable. I like the friendly advice it gives you after you log a meal, and that it can send reminder texts when it’s time to eat a snack or check your glucose levels after a meal.
  • Most helpful GD resource

This app has been so helpful in understanding and managing my new gestational diabetes diagnosis! I love that I can visually see what I ate for each meal in my log as well as the result of my blood sugar after eating - green if it was in range and red if too high. I also love that the app texts me reminders to check my blood sugar since banner notifications aren’t as effective for me. The AI generated meal analysis is cool to see and it sometimes gives me ideas on healthier swaps. I would recommend this to anyone with a GD diagnosis! It says it offers in-app purchases but I haven’t seen a single one. It’s completely free so far!
  • Love this app so much!

The most stressful thing about having GD is the tracking itself. Knowing if your not in range or are. If your eating the right thing or not. Checking your sugar every hour or two. Malama has made it so much easier! They can literally send reminders through text to your phone telling you it’s been an hour since your meal. And they even have a chart for the week and graph showing what your meal times and fasting have been. That and if it’s finger pricked or the dexcom. I’m absolutely in love with app for my GD journey
  • So glad an app like this exists!

I am terrible at keeping track of my GD and meal times so I’m so glad I came across this app! I enjoy the tips to balance my meals being able to just create a report of my numbers to send to my doctor instead of typing it out myself or keeping a notebook and pen with me always.

1000% recommend if you have GD and need help keeping track and just learning how to control it.
  • Best App Ever!

I was feeling totally overwhelmed with my diagnosis and not even sure where to start. My nutritionist referred me to Malama and this app has turned my frown upside down.
It’s super easy and user friendly.
I love seeing my daily/weekly stats and green squares, I feel so motivated to keep eating and logging and testing (I would not have said that a week ago!).
I highly recommend this app to any moms to be with GD.
  • Good app with room for improvement

My doctor recommended this app after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. So far, it’s a pretty good app. Things I like about the app: Easy to use. You can post pics of your meal and calculate the carbs. The calculation isn’t super accurate but I think it does a pretty good job trying to get as close as possible. Things I don’t like about the app: - It takes too long to sync and upload your entries. After you submit an entry, I find the “helpful tips” section annoying and unnecessary. I just want to “save” and move on with my day, I don’t want an extra “continue” button. Tips and treats should be placed somewhere else for those who do want to read up on improving their diet. -I like that the meals are color coded based on your glucose results. For example, if you’re within range, your entry is green. If your glucose result is high, your entry is red. -I work night shift so I sleep the opposite schedule. I can’t list my “fasting” glucose because it’s actually considered “pre dinner,” so under entries, it doesn’t show up accurately. It would be really helpful if all your entries are listed under progress and not set. Fasting doesn’t always have to be the moment you wake up in the morning. It should be named “fasting/pre-breakfast.”

    Developer Response

Thank you for your feedback! We'd like to gain a deeper understanding of where the fasting value is appearing in the app. If you have a moment, please send us a message at support@heymalama.com. We would appreciate the opportunity to schedule a call with you to discuss how we can improve the app.
  • Malama for Gestational Diabetes

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in this pregnancy (3rd) and honestly had no idea where to start with tracking all my info so I could help myself balance my diet and avoid needing insulin! I found this app and it has been so unbelievably helpful from the meal suggestions to telling me what part of my meal is great and what has kept my sugars low or high in the past to the reminders it sends me to check my sugars or eat a snack! I am always on the go and it has been a game changer! Not to mention I can share all of the info with my doctor in an easy way! GET THIS APP MAMAS!
