Machine-powered statuses for the London Tube based on live wait times and train speeds.
Have you ever gone onto the Tube when it was saying 'Good Service' but it turned out to be bad? Or conversely, when it was saying 'Severe Delays' but it turned out to be ok? This happens because TfL's official statuses are declared manually by TfL staff based on guidelines. This makes the official statuses often slow and inaccurate. We can speculate on the reasons why (e.g. honest misdeclaration, bad tech, attempts to manipulate network load, politics, etc.), but the point is that it creates distrust, uncertainty and avoidable bad experiences.
True Tube Status is designed to solve this problem.
The app shows you objective, machine-powered Tube statuses based on live wait times and train speeds across the London Underground. You can also see performance metrics, charts and maps. The data that powers the app is derived from raw arrival board data supplied by TfL.
Use the app to:
– Dodge delays
– Save time
– Plan better
– Reroute optimally when required
– Avoid overcrowding
– Get peace of mind
STATUSES
The app displays the official TfL statuses but with confirmations or corrections based on the data. Confirmations are marked with a tick and corrections are shown in green or red (depending on if they are positive or negative).
METRICS
Official status descriptions (‘Good Service’, ‘Minor Delays’, ‘Severe Delays’) aren’t very precise and can mean a lot of different things. With the app’s metrics you can get an exact understanding of how much longer journeys are taking. This enables you to see how good a ‘Good Service’ is and how severe a ‘Severe Delay’ is etc.
SPARKLINE CHARTS
You can see the recent trend in performance with intuitive, color-coded sparklines (mini charts without axes). They’re useful for timing your journeys. You can tap and drag them to browse through recent data.
DIRECTION INDICATORS
Color-coded indicators show how lines are performing in each direction. You can tap them to filter all the data by direction (e.g. Central line, eastbound only). Statuses, metrics, sparkline charts and maps are all filterable by direction. (Note: This feature is part of the Pro subscription.)
PERFORMANCE MAPS
You can see how your part of a Tube line is performing with live performance maps. Color-coded bars indicate how good or bad performance is on various parts of the line. When you tap and drag a sparkline, the performance map changes to the dragged time. (Note: This feature is part of the Pro subscription.)
PRO SUBSCRIPTION
Direction indicators, direction filters, advanced metrics and performance maps are part of the Pro subscription. A Pro subscription is required for continuous access to all features for all lines. The Pro subscription offers a 7-day free trial and then renews annually. To unsubscribe, turn off auto-renew in settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period.
