Reviews of AFN Now

  • Not a Streaming App

Good thing first: replays of events seem to work okay but will time you out & you have to re-approve you TV to keep watching.
Live streaming of sports or shows doesn’t work. Try to watch anything live, like Memorial Day Races, and all you get is “Something Went Wrong”. In fact, try to watch anything on the Live schedule and that’s what you get. Having a functional app has got to be MUCH cheaper than providing hardware to everyone that is eligible. Yet, in an age of smart TVs & phones, this replay app is all we get.
  • I thought the Roku app was bad

I recently got an AppleTV and the app is so bad. It still doesn’t show AFN Prime Atlantic or Pacific and navigating the app is confusing. I can see what is streaming live in the guide but I’m not sure how to actually watch. It doesn’t work like the Roku app where you select a channel and then it highlights the play icon. The guide is a joke with very little useful info. What’s showing on the “Food and Cooking Lifestyle” channel? Food and Cooking Programming. That’s all you get. You have to tune in, somehow, to see what’s actually on. I’m not sure why there’s a guide at all if it doesn’t tell you what’s on.
  • Needs Improvement

The app should give you an error if it’s not working due to using a US VPN. It needs better playback controls to allow advancing or moving backwards 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc. or easily move forward to a later spot in the on-demand material. I often like to watch the fourth quarter of college football games from Korea. It’s difficult to do that. Also, it’s impossible to turn off closed captioning on AppleTV. Finally, it would be great if live sports could be viewed as soon as the games end. Right now, I’m waiting for college football bowl games to show up under the Sports section. There’s no way to know when it will appear, so I have to keep checking.

Thanks for developing the app. We appreciate it!
