Best video AI mocap solution available.
Best mocap in its class!
I’ll start by acknowledging that there are various other ‘video to motion’ apps and services starting to pop up. This is not the same thing.
So how does it work? From my (non-engineering level) understanding, it uses the iPhone’s camera to track the mocap performers various limbs and joints within the volume you set up. The software then uses the different camera angles to solve the real world location of the actor (much like a 3D camera track works), and generate a 3D motion capture file such as an FBX, which can be retargeted to Unreal, 3DsMax, Maya… iClone… you name it.
You basically need a couple of iPhones (ideally 11s or newer since you want the wide angle lens for better FOV, though it works with iPhone 8 onwards), a few cheap stands and this app.
If you want to see how good the results are, just take a look at the companies Twitter or official website. There’s plenty of comparisons out there, including to Xsens, Vicon, OptiTrack, Rokoko (don’t get me started) and so on.
Did I mention you can capture multiple performers at once? And that there’s no drift since it doesn’t use inertial sensors? I used to be an Xsens Awinda owner before I encountered Move.ai. Now I own 6 x iPhone 13s and a Pelican case. That’s right, it out performed my Xsens, so I sold it.
Do yourself a favor and check this thing out!
