Reviews of EISEN

  • This game is fantastic and very unique!

First off I just want to say as a massive fan of Steel Battalion and Mechwarrior, this game scratches the right itch. It’s a perfect little package of rogue-like, mech sim, action. The way all the different weapons function and how some of them require you to bring up an extra monitor for controlling is great way to make the game feel more hands on and like you are actually doing something rather than the game just playing itself. Something i particularly love is the haptic feedback. The way it’s implemented might be the best I’ve ever seen. You can feel the rumble of the engine and the thump of each step. Every explosion causes your phone to shudder like it’s actually happening inside your device. It adds so much to the game and really pushes it over that line from being good to great.

The game is not without issues though. Currently, once you hit 10 minutes, the frame rate slows to a crawl and the game becomes almost unplayable. I am currently playing on an IPhone XS Max so if you have something newer it might not be so bad, but I’m sure there’s plenty optimization that could be done. If the game is to have any longevity, it is going to need a lot of optimization.

Here are a few recommendations and feature requests.
The map is a little too simple. It needs some height diversity and maybe some obstacles like buildings or hills. I understand the games that it draws inspiration from dont really have things like that but this game feels like it needs it.
I know it’s very unrealistic to say this, but it would be really cool if this game had PvP.

Anyway, this game is definitely worth your time. It takes full advantage of the smartphone platform to enhance its gameplay and the gameplay loop itself is very fun which makes for quick and intense play sessions.
