Not fun
I paid $10 for a game that isn’t even fun. The tutorial is complicated and the game is easy unless you play on hard. I wouldn’t recommend unless you enjoy virtual board games that are not fun
iPad Yes; iPhone No
This is a reasonably engaging light tabletop wargame. It’s one of very few apps in that niche.
Its only demerit is a big one: It literally does not work on my iPhone because you cannot see certain in-game buttons.

Improper screen fitting
I give only a bad rating because the app doesn’t fit to my screen, I can never access the next turn button because it’s cut off by my screen. There is no settings in the game to adjust screen size or to fit. I am saddened that I spent my money on a game that I cannot play 😔

Really Good, Needs a Few More Options
I would like to have the option for complete domination where you have to completely eliminate your opponent.
I would also like the option to speed up the AI.

Screen issue
My only issue is that it doesn’t fit my iPhone’s screen shape anymore since I upgraded; makes it hardly playable anymore.
Other than that, the game is great! Please just fix this.

Update
The game no longer works for me after the most recent update. Any others having this issue?
Great game
This is a wonderful mobile port of a phenomenally good board game. However, it’s in dire need of an update to bring the resolution up to the modern iPhone screen. The icons and text are very, very tiny.
Text, dialogue boxes too small to read easily
Impossible to play even on a large format iPhone — only buy this if you have a big tablet to play on.
Does not work on iPhone
Does not work can not move around the board worse £10 I have ever spend do not buy this game shame I would have like to play this game
Fun sub for board game
I have played this board game and others in the series many times with my kiddos. They don’t want to play simple games or the complicated Avalon Hill games I cut my teeth on; this is really a fun, balanced game system that is historically representative. Tactics are subtle and strategy is multifaceted. And fun. We don’t need 30 pages of eight font type rules to have fun.

Fun but limited
This is a good game, with plenty of restraints. However, sometimes I feel that a wrong move can never be recovered from. The roll of a dice can also frustrate moves. However, it is a worthwhile download.
Nicely done
A very well made game that perfectly replicates the board game experience. The AI is actually strong than what u typically see with strategy game apps but a competent player will consistently win....although the games will be generally close. AI could be stronger if 1) command decision was utilized more frequently to retreat when odds are poor 2) stop wasting moves to add native Americans far in the frontier and away from the opponent 3) British AI adds too many new armies in Quebec and Nova Scotia, away from the main front
Multiplayer format is solid but could be improved if 1) you could load and view the board when it's your opponent's turn and 2) make it "cheat proof" (player can exit mid turn and restart if not liking outcomes
All in though a great game, worth the price

Will give it time, but...
I want to like this game, I really do, but I have a hard time believing in it. First off, I will say what the game does get right: it is an accurate representation of the board game, which is great news for those of us who have a tough time finding a willing opponent. The graphics are well done and play is smooth, but beyond that I find the execution falls short of greatness. I have played a number of round of the short session and have yet to get passed a draw because of what seemed to be a SIGNIFICANT imbalance in the dice simulator. Yes, yes, the Colonists certainly faced seemingly insurmountable odds challenging the greatest organized military force in the world, but to represent that by dice rolling is frustrating to say the least. I have not created a game chart and perhaps I should but it feels that, playing as the Colonists I would hit the necessary dice rolls maybe 30% of the time while the British were always rolling Yahtzee. Sure, I could set the AI to a less challenging setting but I would hope that wouldn't change outcome of dice rolls. I have played the game a couple times where the British were guaranteed victory before my side was out of the gate. I keep hoping this play of events was just a fluke, and I certainly don't want the game too easy, but I do at least want a balance dice generator. My other critique I freely admit is a personal preference so take it with grain of salt. I find the music unsatisfying and dull. It sounds like generic turn base adventure music and not period appropriate fife and drum. This is easily rectified by turning off the music and playing your own source for fife and drum, so I can't REALLY dock a lot of points from the game for it but it is a shame nonetheless. Overall, it is a good solid representation of the board game and fills a void of American Revolution themed games but for now I have a tough time looking past the dice generator. But who knows, maybe after a few more plays fortunes will turn.

FIXED: Computer is playing...and playing ... and playing
Latest update has fixed crashing problems.
FINALLY - UPDATED AND EARNED FIVE STARS!!!
May 2017 update - v2.6 makes the game more user friendly than before: 10 stars! Thank you Andrew and team Hexwar for listening!!!
Jan 14 update - Army size displays no longer disappear, finally... 5 stars!!!
Dec 8 update - More good fixes! Just one more needed as the Army size boxes still disappear. Up to four stars!
Nov 15 update - kudos to the Hexwar Dev team for responding to the issues I've encountered so far. We are in good hands!!!
PROS:
- Just as good as the board game.
- Good replay value.
CONS:
- The game freezes once in a while.
- The size of armies frequently disappears, and you're forced to re-zoom to see them. Very annoying when trying to plan moves and battles!!!
- As fun as it is to watch the dice roll, they're often blocked by the top of the battle display frame - would be better if the dice appeared at the bottom of the screen.

Board game fan
Plays just like the board game! If you enjoy Academy Games titles and particularly 1812, then you'll love this. Worth the price!!
Love it on iPhone, will not run on iPad mini 1
Amazing game and have enjoyed a lot of plays on myiphone but I can't get it to start a game on my iPad mini 1. Please help.
Great implementation of a great board game
This is a well done version of one of my favorite board games. The animations can be a little slow. I hope more scenarios come out for it. It does burn through the battery on my iPad 4.
Must have for board gamers!
It has a short scenario for a tutorial on the basic movement and rules of the game. There's also campaign mode with winning conditions that one have to achieve before moving on.
So far it's been fun and also learned about the 1775 revolutions history at the same time.
Haven't tried the multiplayer yet but will soon.
Zoom is a little buggy because at first I thought there was only 1 perspective but if you go to the settings and play around with it, it actually is pretty cool zooming almost 3D like.
From what I've read of steam reviews, the people who own the physical board game stated it is very faithful translation to digital which isn't always easy to do! Great job Hex!

Amazing Game, Mediocre Interface
The game is based on the Academy Games boardgame and is fantastic. This app's interface is only so-so. Most notably, the zoom function does not always work, making it almost impossible to place armies (and this is on a full-sized iPad). When you make a command decision (regroup), the app sometimes hides the number of armies in adjacent areas. and the music in this game is quite repetitive.
That said, the underlying game itself is excellent. I hope the publisher improves the app to make this the five-star game it deserves to be.
