Best List Maker

Not a day goes by without reviewing my many lists on Outliner. I have book lists, suitcase packing list, boat supplies, household projects just to name a few. And the app is so easy to use.

A bit clunky

It's nice that it has the facility to add a note section at each node and the rest of the functionality is OK. But it isn't very touch screen friendly. You end up clicking into each item and the task toggle is just annoying, the way it has been implemented.

The app doesn't really do much and for such a limited piece of software I would have expected a universal app. Instead you have to buy the iPad version separately.

GREAT!! Researched a long time and I'm glad I got this one.

I use this application for goal and idea planning. It's reliable. I like the way you can backup data online, and actually create outlines there and put them on your ipod. I would truly give it five stars except for two minor bugs. 1. It is way TOO easy to delete. They should give you a warning. 2. When you enter a lot of data at one time, eventually the data entry begins to stutter and pause until you eventually have to wait a few seconds before a key entry will work. Though, after giving it a rest, or syncing, it goes back to normal speed. It is aggrivating though, because when you really get to brainstorming, it puts you on hold.

Been looking for something like this for a while

Good, intuitive, simple, efficient interface. Even though there are a ton of outliner apps, this is the one I've been looking for. It's almost perfect, but I do have a wishlist:
-Auto sync on startup / before shutdown
-Ability to assign tags to single nodes
-Ability to sync same file to both dropbox and outliner online
AND/OR
-Ability to set dropbox as default destination rather than having to change at each new outline.

And most of all
-A PC companion application, or a better solution to edit on pc (Recommended third-party software "bonsai" almost does it, if only it had native OPML support rather than that import/export business. Or at least the ability to set a keyboard shortcut to "export as opml" or set it as default format to "save as" to. Perhaps Carbonfin has enough weight to convince Bonsai to do a few tweaks?) Even as a standalone application I'm sure a PC equivalent of omnioutliner would do very well. Online Outliner is good but there has to be a good way to work offline.

Does what it says - really well

I had used BrainForest for years on Palm devices, but this is really the type of product I had been looking for. The syncing is seamless, but could really rock with iCloud integration.

Great productivity app

One of my top apps, I use it to organize everything, from checklists to ideas.

Amazing!!

This app is so well done and has replaced a few apps already like my packing list app. Outliner lets you uncheck all completed items so it works extremely well as a packing list. I can use the template over and over again on future trips.

But that's not all - it syncs with a web version!! I can't stress how awesome and useful this is. I type a lot faster on the computer than on my itouch. It is so much easier to add items online then sync to the app. Seamlessly perfect and better than a lot of apps.

I'm also using this in conjunction with toodledo. Toodledo handles subtasks really badly, but together with outliner the combo is perfect. I use toodledo for single tasks and then outliner for project tasks. Worth the money.

**** feature request ****

I would really like to be able to click on urls within notes.

And please add passcode!

Amazing app

As yet another OmniOutliner user, I have to praise this app for its outright excellence.
I have some truly monumental outlines and this app swallows them all up and handles them beautifully!
I use this daily, creating new outlines too and I can certainly vouch for it being the best outliner on the App Store (I outline so much that I had to try all of them just to be sure).

Awesome!

An outliner that is powerful and easy to use...

What sold me on Carbon Fin is the ability of its web-based alter-ego to import OPML files combined with the app's ability to sync over the air with the web-application. I'm a heavy OmniOutliner user. My workflow with this application is to design and build the outline in OmniOutliner then import it into the web application and then sync it to my iphone. Once on the iphone, I'm constantly updating and editing the outlines on both the iphone and the web application. The ability to sync allows me to keep both current.

By having the "seed" or "template" outline where I can readily import it into the web-application allows me to develop very complex checklists that are easily re-usable. If you have the need for a checklist that you want to use again and again, with iterative improvements, this is an ideal tool.

The synergy between the iphone app and the web-application and OmniOutliner makes this an impressively powerful and capable outlining tool. I didn’t need fancy typography, I just wanted simple and readily accessible outlining. Carbon Fin delivers. The free web-application and no need to buy the desktop version of the app made this the ideal choice for me.

Bonsai for the iPhone/iPod/iPad

I've been waiting for an application that works as easily as Bonsai did on my Palm Tungsten. Outliner is that app. I moved my collection of 20 outlines from Bonsai to Outliner in less than an hour. All you do is export your Bonsai outline to a .txt file. Open the Outliner web app (I really wish there was a stand-alone app but this will do for now), Import a text file, copy the text form your Bonsai text file and paste it onto the Outliner window. Thats it!

All other functions, promoting, demoting, moving items, tagging, 1-line previews, item notes are all very simply executed with easy-to-use onscreen commands. Numbering can be toggled as necessary.

The search function is very useful and works well. All of the outline commands that are accessible under the outline icon are very easy to use.

I have to say this app works perfectly for what I need and was looking for. It's too bad Natara didn't get their act together and port their Palm application to the iPhone. They totally missed the boat. CarbonFin Outliner has picked up the ball and is running with it.

If you need to get your old Palm Bonsai files to the iPhone, Outliner is the tool to use.
