Urban spoon

Pretty reliable as a fussy newcomers guide to good food, coffee and bars

AWESOME

So user friendly....great info

A good guide

Living in Albion, we're blessed with having a multitude of cafe's, restaurants and eateries, all within 10 minutes drive. Always keen to try new places, my partner and I have found that although we have quantity close by, it doesn't always translate into to quality, and often it's difficult to decide on whether to take a gamble or go with what we know. Urbanspoon is a good guide and has steered us to, and away from, all manner of places, and we feel confident in referring to the website. It works well, and also allows us to give credit to our favorite places, and also warn others of our less than memorable experiences. The new app has cool features too including 'the shake', which we use regularly when we just can't decide. All up, very happy with Urbanspoon.

Great info, okay app

Generally excellent & reliable content, but the app performance is fairly sub standard. Have to constantly manually update my location whenever I move somewhere new (this should happen automatically when I tap nearby). Often it is very slow to respond (I think because it's a web based app, not a pure app?). Also the workflow is complicated, need to tap through too many screens to return to the home screen if you're deep in the app. And what happened to the ability to add a new restaurant from the app, I know it was there because I did it once, but now can't find it? Sad if it was removed, worse if it's just buried somewhere... In short, the app could really do with some work. Thanks to all the users contributing content, it's generally very helpful.

What a crap App

This application when it first came out was amazing. Loved it, it was fun to use and play with. Now with enhanced advertising incorporated into the App I find I am stuck and not actually able to use the app for any of it's intended purposes and instead get peppered with advertisements I don't give a rip about.

Way to screw up something that was good. Updating doesn't mean make the platform different so we have to learn something new all over. Updating means making the platform a better version so that it works better on a phone.

Boo on the latest update I have already deleted it.

Great little app

We love this app for its ability to introduce us to new cafes and restaurants (the 'shake' came up with Tiger Mottle on Sunday and it was a fantastic find). We like being able to review (and tell people about) our favourite places, and to take photos and add them to the listing. The Google map function is brilliant, the quick link to the restaurant's website is often very handy, and the browse/search function is fantastic. We use this app all the time, as we tend to eat out a lot.
But we really wish we didn't have to put up with the awful and lame ad banners that really detract from our beloved Urbanspoon app experience :(

No auckland

I'm sure it would be great if it worked outside of USA

Doesn't work outside of US

Terrible that it is advertised on all stores but only works in the US.

About time!

It's about time we had an ordinary person's site for restaurant criticism. Up till now it's been all hi faluting stuff, there's nothing wrong with that if you eat like that all the time but I don't and I bet neither do you.
So it is good to pass on an opinion which doesn't require histrionics or demolition of reps. All I want is a decent eating place that's been visited by a guy like me and his wife. I know opinion are like a********s 'cos everybody has one but the majority of both are liveable with and can find you somewhere new.
