Updated Review: I just read an article that iOS 18 will be deactivating the old Today Screen widget system. Hopefully this will get you all to create a new news widget! I’ll be glad to no longer have to deal with the old one that only works half the time! And please, create a new widget for scores that shows more than one score on an individual widget! Thanks!

Prior Review: The new profile icons are nice. Is there a way to select which of my favorite teams show in my profile? I favorite a lot of teams in my teams’ conference just to get alerts on other teams. OR! Can we add alerts to teams without making them a favorite team? Otherwise, my previous review below about the widgets is still 100% needed… thanks!

Prior Review: Y’all are killing me with the widget options. The new (2x2) score widget is super limited (why even bother?). I wonder about how this or that game is going? Okay, flip through my stack of score widgets to find each one… really? And the old Today screen widget keeps working, then not working, then working, then disappearing all together, then coming back… goodness! Why not just build a new 4x4 news widget with the same four articles as on the old widget, a 4x4 scoreboard widget similar to the old widget, and be done with it already? I know there are more use cases that some folks would want with widgets, but that would likely satisfy the majority…

  • Elite App

Best sports app in the App Store. A must have app. I love that in the ‘scores’ tab, I get games populated on a daily basis and can easily swipe left and right to view adjacent days. I love that it populates all games for me from the schedules of my ‘favorites.’ I also really love that, in addition, I can also ‘pin’ an entire league, and have all games populated into this tab according to the league schedules. I also appreciate that I can re-order these teams & leagues to show in the ‘scores’ tab in the order of my preference. Truly incredible stuff.

Recommendations: (1) please add schedules for boxing so this app can be used to follow this sport, similar to how UFC/bellator schedules are incorporated when following MMA. (2) it can be a few more taps than preferred to access schedules for leagues that you don’t have pinned or favorited. (3) the ‘news,’ ‘favorites,’ and ‘discover’ tabs are pretty redundant and tbh useless, although the top part of the ‘favorites’ tab showing the upcoming schedules of your favorite teams is sort of nice. Might be nice to consolidate these tabs. (4) please add some sort of paid version or subscription to remove ads!

Hey there - Thanks for the review and feedback. In-app advertising ensures we can continue offering theScore as a free app. That said, we do work to ensure any advertising does not significantly detract from using the app, so we’re sorry if this has not been your experience. Cheers! - TI

Hey there-I would recommend a full reset. Log out of and uninstall theScore app. Uninstall the widget. Reinstall the app, login, install the widget, and set your favorite team. -DM
  • Does not work

The app will not open it keeps on crashing every time I try and open it, I am getting notifications though
  • Replaced Yahoo Sports with this after 10+ years

I used Yahoo Sports since back when it was called Sportacular, and it was always my go-to sports app. ESPN’s app has always been a semi-functional, ad-filled disaster, and unfortunately Yahoo decided to “improve” their app, by which they apparently meant “totally ruin it” (seriously, go look at reviews from the past couple months on their app).

So that brought me to theScore, which performs admirably at providing one simple app that shows me the sports scores I want in one place. The customization options work well, and there’s a good variety of sports to choose from (including many European soccer leagues, which was important to me).

All in all, a very good sports app. In many ways it reminds me of the good apps of old - simple, user-friendly, does what it’s supposed to do with no fuss - exactly what I was looking for.

  • Consistent issue when muting a game

I’ve had this issue for honestly over a year or two. When I’m watching a game I’ll sometimes ‘mute’ my notifications from the specific game so I don’t see the final score before I watch it, or a goal/run before it happens. It will show you a notification saying something along the lines of “press on notification to resume receiving notifications” HOWEVER if you for whatever reason deleted the notification because it gets pushed down your list of notifications or you simply swipe and close it on accident you’re screwed. There’s no consistent way for you to get your notifications for your specific team to start working again. And sorry to tell you but I’d prefer to not have to uninstall and reinstall every time to “fix” the issue. This is clearly an issue that hasn’t been fixed, not to mention your customer support email system doesn’t seem to work on iPhone through Apple email as I’ll get a error saying something like the server you’re trying to reach doesn’t exist or work. Oh well. Been using the app for years and have been very happy but this issue is extremely frustrating

Hey there- You can mute/unmute any alerts from within the app. Simply go to the team/league/player etc page you are looking for. In the top right, tap on the bell to open your notifications. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see a mute notification option you can then toggle. Hope that helps! Thanks. -DF
  • New format

Top app well done it works well for me plenty of information as it happens
  • Notifications

I’ve used the app for the last 7+ years, it’s been the best and way better than espn. Best at stats, news, etc. From the most recent update 2 weeks ago notifications have started giving bare bones info. To the point where they are clearly driving you to click on the notification because they just give the tiniest bit of info wanting you to go into the app. Today for example “Jimmy G suspended 2 games” and that was it. Why was he suspended? You have to click to get that info. It used to provide subject then a sentence or 2 about it, giving you a good idea of the news piece. Would click if I wanted to read more.

The score gets the benefit of driving engagement but I think I’ll look elsewhere if this is the direction you are moving. I get it your a business at the end of the day. Happy to be wrong but I looked at all my settings and couldn’t find a way to fix this issue.
