adds comes up no matter what

Paid for no adds but still shows up every time. I have to go to setting for upgrade every time I use. It’s very annoying.

My go-to Japanese Dictionary

I've been using this app for years now. It is a must for anyone wanting to learn Japanese. Easy to use and complete. Make sure you turn on your Japanese keyboard to get the most out of it too!

Helpful App

Very helpful when studying Japanese and fumble to find the words you look for when speak others.

Great App!

Very useful: it works in both directions and even accepts voice inputs. All you have to do is enable the Japanese keyboards.

Excellent

It helps on my daily life a lot.

Good app but needs work too

I love it, but here are a couple of ideas for improvement:
• Include hiragana/katakana alphabets
• Add audio and romanization for each word/phrase

"OK" Application, could be improved

To be honest, when I first started using this application I was thrilled to find a Japanese-English dictionary that accomplished my basic needs. Unfortunately it has several issues that make it not nearly as ideal as the FREE "Kotoba!" dictionary. Notably, there is no way to zoom in on Kanji - meaning for especially tiny Kanji - example 鬱 - うつ - "utsu" - look like a tiny black smudge. This is incredibly irritating as it makes it impossible to distinguish the Kanji. "Kotoba!" - FREE application - while isn't perfect, has a much more thorough definition, reading (of both Hiragana and Kanji) is much more legible and easy to read, and even includes Romaji. Another feature is a stroke order, with moving image for many of the more common Kanji. Considering this "gogoNavi" is a paid application, I expect better support, and frankly better features than a free program. The one small redeeming quality is that you can save a favorites list of words and it has a history of recently searched words... these two features are the only reasons I still on the rare occasion use this dictionary over the free "Kotoba!".

Not impressed

The hiragana is to small to make out the variation marks. There are too many words actually. A lot of the time when I use words from this dictionary my Japanese room mate would give me a weird look followed by "thats a very old/unusual word ... no one uses that word any more." He described some of the words as being so old that it's like listening to Shakespear in Japanese.

Great dictionary

Easy to use, saves your history, and delivers excellent results. This is a much cleaner and faster interface than the free ones. It's worth the price.

Some use, but mostly frustrating.

Two cautions about this app for would-be buyers. One, the translations it comes up with, while not necessarily inaccurate, can be unhelpful. Important or common words don't always appear first. For example, searching "to talk" gives the first definition as the relatively rare verb 語らう (katarau) and the second as 語る (kataru, which in any case means something more like "to tell a story"). Only at third place do we finally get しゃべる (shaberu) which is a common translation of "to talk". (If you're wondering how I'd work out if a word was rare, I used the prevalence of these words in the Tanaka Corpus as a guide to their prevalence of use.) Similarly, "to search" yields rarities さぐる & さがしまわる before the common さがす。If you were using this feature to translate words, this could become annoying very quickly. Two, deployment of the Chinese-language input feature to input unknown kanji is cool, but apparently, (perhaps because Japanese "kokuji" characters aren't used in Chinese) you won't be able to search using this for all Japanese characters. I tried in vain to get it to recognise 記 from 記す (shirusu, to write down) for instance, and tried a number of kokuji to no avail. Again, if you thought this might be useful for looking up characters it could be potentially frustrating.
