Pure XMPP/Jabber Client
This is one of the rare pure XMPP/Jabber client app. I.e., as the description notes, it does not go through any servers of its own. I can connect and use it with our corporate IM server which is not connected to the Internet, but LAN only. I can use it outside over VPN as well.

Excellent free app!
The app is the only iPhone IM client that I know of that works with openfire servers and VPN. Since it's free and of high quality, it's easily a five star app. I find the UI a little complicated especially the buttons that run along the bottom but considering the features, reliability, etc. It is easy enough to put up with. Works fine
An app should be reviewed on what it promises to do and not on what you would like for it to do. This one delivers as promised and make you aware of its limitations.

Great App For The Price Point
Love this app. Recent updates have made it much more solid and usable. The price is perfect, and I'm not forced to trust some third-party servers with my chats. Great for hopping on corporate emergency chats when I'm away from the desk.

Clean and functional
Great for serious users- no bells and whistles. Needed good XMPP client for corporate and home use. Did not want to store password on third party server and didn't mind sacrificing push notifications. Protocol stack runs natively on phone so I can use it with office jabber server wothout third party in the middle. Only client that I've seen so far that does this. Now we are getting somewhere! I haven't used Monal since Multi User Chat was added but this is the feature I've been waiting for. It is good and stable with my Openfire server. I realize there may be one or two premium priced and feature rich chat apps out there. But I think there is a place for a good solid free app with Multi User Chat. Great jabber client!
UI is simple and fast, supports landscape mode for typing and supports multitasking with push notifications on my iOS4.1 iPhone 4.
But it should be able to display offline contacts.

Great App!
This is exactly what I've been looking for: a direct connection to Google Talk with backgrounding support on iPhone 4. Seems to be working well. My request would be to make the suspend time configurable, or reclassify as VOIP and stay running perpetually in the background (this would be ideal).

Works as advertised.
Using iOS4 it works beautifully on gchat. Not sure why it needs to deactivate after 2 minutes of inactivity, though. This doesn't seem the way s truly "backgrounded" app should behave.
Suggestion: let us disable some of the push notifications. I only need to know if someone sends me a message, not all the warnings about shut-down.Show lesseastcoasting
Does what it needs to, but...
There is a bug (for gmail talk at least) where another buddy contact's name is posted in the chat window when the current chat contact starts typing or is about to/actually sends a message. Other than that, it's a pretty basic client, but does the trick. Wish there were better buddy status icons (available, idle, away), contact list sorting options and a more usable text entering window (it gets complicated when going back to make changes or edits).Show lessPolloTec
