Continues allow you to resume play from the question you were at when the game ended. Your three base lives are replenished. Continues are great for not losing ground when your game ends from a bomb explosion.

Extra Lives keep your game going after your three base lives are used up. They do not protect your game from bomb explosions, but any Extra Lives you had when a bomb explodes are preserved.
