Rip Off and Rip Off

One of the worst apps on the AppStore after paying for a full version now you want us to subscribe. Automatic updates don’t give us option to decline the updates. You guys just become greedy and greedy. If you can’t sustain the costs then you shouldn’t have updated it. Ethically you should have put out a subscription version of your app and should have left this one alone. I will complain to apple and ask for my original payment for this app. Stay away from this app people.

I thought I had bought this app!

I bought this App ages ago and used it quite a lot for fun. I was totally surprised on opening it today to find it no longer functioned.

So disappointing, yet another app to go down the horrible subscription business model. I’m sorry but so many things are doing this that from a consumer perspective it’s impossible to support. In isolation the cost might be relatively small but subscriptions and other direct debits can add up to quite a large constant stream of money leaving your bank account.

Paid upgrades for people who like to control their outgoings would be a more fair arrangement. Also, we should be allowed to keep the last paid to own version of the app.

That said, it is a good app,(speaking about the version before the change), with a different approach to drawing from other vector apps, it has a well designed responsive interface.

Can’t stop iOS from upgrading a single app to version 4

Going for a subscription model and not being able to stop it from updating to version 4 is such a bad practice. I’ve deleted the app and of course - am not going to use it anymore.

Total Fraud!

I purchased this app a few years back, and today it’s prompting me to pay for a subscription. Complete fraud, these developers should be ashamed of themselves.

Disappointed

Very disappointed to see that this has become a subscription service. I have enjoyed this app on and off since my original purchase but It is too limited and I just don’t use it enough to warrant a subscription. Worse of all I now cannot continue to work on my last project or indeed access the features that I originally paid for. My bad for updating without reading the description first!

Is this legal?

As so many have commented, used the app happily for years (having bought it), I can no longer use it due to the forced subscription model. I hope the business fails.

Response from developer

Free updates were provided for more than a decade, unfortunately there will be some who do not want to pay a fair price for useful software and expect free updates forever. Users have always had the choice to update. The app will continue with its development and support for the users who value it. Version 4.1 has added many new enhancements, many more will follow with continued support for future iOS versions and devices.

I am going to complain about this app

I purchased this app and paid full price and used before.
Now suddenly they changed the app payments to subscription and stopped me using it.
This is illegal, i reported it to Apple and if Apple did not deal with it I will complain to trading standards in the UK.

iDesign was updated and supported for free over 13 years for the low one time purchase price. This was no longer sustainable and to keep the app developed and supported, version 4.0 onwards requires a subscription. Design files are accessible without a subscription with full export options. You purchased an old version of the app which supported a version of iOS. The version update clearly mentions the changes and users have always had the choice to update, free updates and new versions have a significant cost to the developer and cannot be provided free forever. The yearly subscription option is well discounted and priced much less than apps of similar capability. Hope you can see value in what the app provides.

Bad

I can’t believe it is now a subscription app
You should allow a older version that is not supported so people can keep editing there work

Thank you for your review. iDesign was updated and supported for the past 13 years for a low one time purchase price, many users have enjoyed free updates and support for over a decade. This was no longer sustainable and to keep the app developed and supported, moving to a subscription model was needed. All your design files are accessible even without a subscription with full export options included for when you are not subscribed. The version update information clearly mentions the changes and users have always had the choice to update, free updates and new versions have a significant cost to the developer and cannot be provided free forever. The yearly subscription option is well discounted and is priced much less than apps of similar capability. Hope you can see value in what the app can provide and subscribe to look forward to the app being developed and supported for the future.

Abandoned

Originally I paid for this App and used it for several projects over the past few years. There was no subscription then. But now, I have transferred it to my new iPad I find that I must subscribe to the tune of $7.99/mo. For something I use once in a blue-moon that’s a no-go.

It is difficult to use and limited in terms of functionality. If you are a regular CAD user you should pay for AutoCAD.

(comparing with full fledged desktop CAD applications like AutoCAD which is more than 10 times the price is unfair)
