Please let me free view my layers!

Hello,

I loved this app. I used it for many projects. I mistakenly upgraded and didn’t realize I was losing any functionality. Would it be possible to allow me to turn on and off the layers as part of the “free” version I purchased so long ago? I realize I don’t deserve to be able to do that since it would require an update and I’m not planning to subscribe. But I just want to be able to VIEW my layers that I accidentally turned off prior to the update that removed the previously working functionality I paid for. Thank you ever so much and so sorry for your troubles.

Layer visibility changes are still edits on the design file but will consider this in the future for the free viewer version. You can make any edit or changes now with the monthly subscription option (during the two week trial period) and then cancel if you do not want to continue with the subscription.

Absolute theft

Beware of purchasing from this developer; they cannot be trusted.

I purchased this app and created many designs with it. Then one day, I opened the app to a message that it’s now on a subscription model, and all I can do is use the “free viewer” to view my files - except that the free viewer is so limited as to be useless. Did you have some layers hidden? Tough bananas, the free viewer doesn’t actually let you view them.

This is theft.

I have used other paid apps that switched to a subscription model. They have all created a new version of the app and left the old one alone. That’s the non-scammy way to handle it. This developer instead tells its existing users that it considers them freeloaders.

So, beware of doing business with this developer. You might just find that somewhere down the road, they decide to unilaterally declare that you owe them more money to get at your own drawings.

iDesign was updated and supported for free for over 13 years for the low one time purchase price. This was no longer sustainable and to keep the app developed and supported, moving to a subscription model was needed. Design files are accessible without a subscription with full export options. The version update clearly mentions the changes and users have always had the choice to update, free updates and new versions have a significant cost to the developer and cannot be provided free forever. (Abandoning the app and creating a new one is not an option) The yearly subscription option is well discounted and priced much less than apps of similar capability. Hope you can see value in what the app provides.

Don’t support this app

I purchased the stand alone app a while back. I went to use it today to find out I cannot use the app because it has been converted to a subscription app (without any warning). Subscription programs are a crappy way to constantly leach money out of users; which is absolutely wrong!!! Apple, why do you support this “bait and switch" tactic?

Thank you for your review. iDesign was updated and supported for the past 13 years for a low one time purchase price, many users have enjoyed free updates and support for over a decade. This is no longer sustainable and to keep the app developed and supported, moving to a subscription model was needed (A hard decision for a small developer to continue serving the app and its users for the years ahead). All your design files are accessible even without a subscription with full export options included for when you are not subscribed. The version update information clearly mentions the changes and users have always had the choice to update, free updates and new versions have a significant cost to the developer and cannot be provided free forever. The yearly subscription option is well discounted (works out to be less than the price of a cup of coffee a month) and is priced much less than apps of similar capability. Hope you can see value in what the app can provide and subscribe to look forward to the app being developed and supported for the future.

Expensive subscription

Now requires an expensive subscription to properly access (eg turn on or off layers) the hundreds of designs I’ve built up over the years. Really angry.

Beware

Well, I’ve had this app for a long time. For noodling around it isn’t bad. I used it to design a wood fence, check out different paint options for a bicycle retrofit, and other simple things. But if I’ve used this app more than a few hours a year I’d be surprised. Anyway, it works for very simple things but for anything serious I use Autocad. Now, I’m really sorry I downloaded this latest subscription version. Once this is done you can’t go back. The subscription model is a misguided scheme to generate more revenue. But I’d like the app developers to know that my business is gone. I want to buy the app and perhaps pay for certain upgrades. But a subscription?? Absolutely not. I will be looking for other noodling cad apps.

Just wow!

I bought and used this app for the past 10 year with a purchase price of $7 I believe it was and today I went to use it and it is subscription based. I used this app to design Christmas projects for my kids every year. I guess I will be deleted one of my long term apps and going with either another app from someone else or back to pencil and paper. So much for being a loyal customers I guess. Unbelievable. ************************** In response to your reply. Well hopefully all of the other developers app I’ve downloaded don’t start to do the same thing. I have Grand Theft Auto on my phone. Hopefully tomorrow they don’t decide to start charging monthly to play it. Also as per your statement of the cost being less than a cup of coffee a month? That’s irrelevant . I don’t get why you couldn’t have disconnected this specific app version, removed it from the App Store so that people like me can still use it for free but when we deleted it at any point it would not be available. And to have a second app available that is a paid version for those who are downloading for the 1st time. Either was I’ve deleted the app.

Thanks for updating your review. Unfortunately discontinuing the app and creating another was not a viable option in moving to a subscription. Cheeky Buggers - Now want paying for an upgrade

It would have been nice to have been asked if I wanted a paid for upgrade. I bought this app and have numerous designs which I can no longer modify. I don’t disagree with you for charging for the upgrade but it would have been better to have the choice wether to upgrade or not. How do I go back to the previous version?

It’s a RIPOFF or The reason to NEVER pay for apps.

I used this cumbersome app for few a couple of years after paying a hefty price. Now I cannot access my drawings unless I sign up for a subscription. I have already paid for this app just like a few others that change the terms of purchase and hijack the app for subscriptions. All this leads to NEVER PURCHASE AN APP FROM THE APPLE APP STORE.

Edit answer to the developer: This jerk had the audacity to blame the hijacking of this app to a Bad Business Plan, it’s not sustainable? Should have thought about that before you offered the app to buy, not after you purchase the app then hijack it and charge a subscription. You think I’m going to pay for a subscription? Screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me. I am not responsible for your Bad Business Plan.

Very Prompt Response

I’ve been using iDesign for years for my work. Always been very happy with it. Recently, after a new update, I came across an issue that made my projects much harder. I contacted support and was very promptly contacted and the issue was very quickly addressed and fixed in another update. Though this program used to be free, it is of such value to me that paying for it now is well worth it. Very highly recommended!

Thank you for your positive feedback. Happy to support you with any issues with the app and great to hear that you have used iDesign for many years for your work and value the app, thanks for subscribing! iDesign is being actively developed and you can look forward to many more features, improvements and continued support.

Terrible Customer Policies

I used to use this as a fast sketch up on jobs (I’m an Engineer) on my iPad. I purchased it as a “One Time Purchase.” Suddenly this program doesn’t open any more unless I pay a subscription price.

I HATE RANSOM-Ware. I won’t be paying a Ransom to keep using a program I paid for as agreed.

It’s almost understandable why software developers get in on the GOLD-RUSH of app subscriptions. People have to pay even if they don’t use the app. But developers should change ethically, then I will decide if it is of benefit to me to pay the subscription. This type of RANSOM or loose your files, is extortion & should be illegal & prosecuted as a crime.

I will take the loss of my files I can no longer access, redraw what I can in another app & that will be the end of iDesign for me.

One star is too many.
