Wonderful for exploring and cataloging—and a suggestion

I’ve been greatly enjoying learning more about through this app! It’s also got powerful features for storing details about your wines.
One feature that would make it even better would be a quick filter button to show only My Wines currently listed with at least one bottle in stock. While it is possible to search by location, since I have a handful of very small storage places, it makes it cumbersome so see at a glance what I have on hand. This would also make it easier for My Wines to serve as a “have tasted” collection because the wines not currently in stock would not be cluttering up the viewing space. Right now the only way to not see wines that have already been consumed is to delete them, but I’d rather keep them archived.
Thanks for your app!

We are delighted you are enjoying the app and thank you for your review. The feature you request is actually in the app already. When you go to the “My Wines” tab there is a Sort button on the top left of the screen (a down arrow symbol). When you tap on this Sort button you will see options to display you wines by all of the following: Date Added, Styles, Cellar, Vintage, Rating, Favorites and Wishlist. When you select Cellar from this list all of your wines with at least one bottle in stock will be displayed – these wines will be displayed in descending order based on the stock available with the highest displayed first. Tip: if you want to see, for example, what Bordeaux wines you have in stock just select Cellar from the Sort button and then type “Bordeaux” into the Search bar at the top of the screen. All of the Bordeaux wines you have in stock will then be displayed. Hope this helps. If you have any further questions or comments just contact us through the “Pocket Wine Support” button in the More tab in the app and we will be happy to respond.

Very useful and recommended.

A seriously useful app, if you have a passing interest in enjoying wines. From the start, you get asked some simple questions, to work out what wjote/red wines you will like. This is called 'My Taste' which builds a profile of your wine taste. It has an indepth guide of the variety of grapes all around the world, which tells you how it tastes and also a detailed description of the grape. Highly recommend this app.

Updated review after a couple of years in use - This is a great wine app, especially if you want to record the wines you have tried and give them a score. It’s a good bit of software to refine wines you like and also to explore new wines going forward. It's always interesting to read up on the history and grape variety as you drink your wine at the same time... :) Recommended !

Perfect for any wine lover!

Absolutely perfect to rate, sort and learn about wines. Has become an indispensable part of my wine drinking routine and the best way to understand all about the different types as well as refining and understanding my own tastes.

Response from developer

Thank you for your review and delighted you are enjoying the app. Exploring grape varieties and styles, while recording and rating your wines, is a great way to increase your wine knowledge and enjoyment. App pretty clean just need

The app is pretty clean, straightforward and intuitive. I liked the explanations and recommendations. Just need a Dark mode and with that feature would be a 5 start for me. I’m planning on purchasing completely forever but until it’s get the Dark mode feature.

Response from developer

Thank you for your review. Glad you like the app and we’ll strive to get that fifth star. Dark mode is on the “To Do” list, but I can’t promise it will be in the next update, but we’ll try. Your comments are much appreciated and thank you for taking the time to post your review.

Very helpful

Pocket Wine is an informative and ideal app for anyone wishing to learn about wine. As a beginner, I learned a great deal in a short amount of time. This app contains a wealth of very interesting information, and its content holds my interest. I would highly recommend this app to anyone wishing to learn about the need to know information (and then some) about wine.

Delighted you are enjoying the app and thank you for such a well-considered and thoughtful review. The app was designed for the beginner and wine expert alike and we have endeavoured to make the interface as user friendly as possible. It’s interesting you say you have “learned a great deal in a short amount of time”. This coincides with our view that the apparent ‘complex’ world of wine can be unlocked quite quickly with the right information, insight and guidance. Wine is one of life’s great pleasures and may we wish you continued enjoyment.

Easily searchable

Great app. At first I hated having to enter in all the information, but the search feature makes up for it. Finally, a wine app that you can actually find the wine you are looking for.

Response from developer

We are delighted you are enjoying the search feature on the app. Having to enter information on a wine can be time consuming, but the great benefit is that your data is 100% accurate. In turn, this enhances your search experience and gives you a deeper understanding of your individual wines. Thank you for posting your review, which is greatly appreciated.

Auto fill capabilities

I really thought this app was great until someone introduced me to the Vivino. You take a pic of a label in Vivino and it auto populates the wine details. I paid for the Pocket Wine App and it still doesn’t auto populate. It would also be nice to be able to plug-in of wine and have the wine details pop up to help me and my selection.

Response from developer

Sorry to read you are unhappy with the app, which obviously does not meet your particular wine needs. Unfortunately, auto fill label scanning sacrifices accuracy for convenience. It’s certainly convenient to have scanning retrieve the information for you, but are you willing to accept incorrect country, region, producer, grape/blend, alcohol level and occasionally a red wine described as a white wine or a white described as a red? Scanning is brilliant when it works, but unfortunately it doesn’t always work and you are often left with incorrect information on the selected wine – and you don’t know which elements are correct and which are incorrect. There are many hurdles left for scanning to overcome, not least of which it must be said are poor wine label designs. We hope you continue to enjoy wine and find the app the works best for you.

Excellent App

This is the best app I’ve seen for keeping track of my wine, understanding the grapes, and knowing how to pair foods with my specific wines. Great flexibility to set up cellar locations and vintages. Love it!

Response from developer

We are delighted you are enjoying the app and thank you for such a well-considered and constructive review. As well as extensive wine style, grape variety and food pairing content the app has been designed as a complete wine journal and cellar manager and it’s great that you are engaged with all of these features. We have also focused on making navigation on the app as easy and user friendly as possible and we will ensure this is the case as more content and features are added. Wine is one of life’s great pleasures and may we wish you continued enjoyment.
