  • Great! ...except scoring

My family and I have loved Rummy-Cube (or Rummicub) for a long time across several generations, so when I saw this for iPad, I had to get it. Be warned... Very addictive! The look and feel is excellent and the game play is smooth as silk (at least on my iPad 2... Though my mom hasn't complained on her original iPad either).

The reason I cant give it 5 stars...

The scoring is a bit wonky. I can't comment on what Bluetooth play is like yet, but at least when playing against the computer, his penalty shows as a positive number. Really, the winner should either get the loser's penalty as a positive number, or it should be a negative number for the loser.

In reality, the way rummicub is scored is you get the value of the tiles you put on the table. When you go out you get a bonus of 25. The losers penalty is scored as a negative, because you usually play in multiple hands up to 500 (like gin rummy).

However, I'd just be happy if the winner was awarded the losers penalty... That way you could continue to play up until 500 or whatever.

I also don't see where scores can be reset. Would be a good feature if the overall scoring can be fixed.

    Thanks for a great game!

  • High Quality, Challenging, Fun, Reliable

I've had this app since shortly after I bought the IPad, which was almost two (?) years ago. It is the most reliable iPad app I own. And I own MANY. It's a fun game, requires my brain to work..sometimes work hard... and is currently one game I play alone. It's peaceful while being fun and challenging.

Can't say enough for adequate praise. I don't believe I've ever complained about it, even to my sister...who also plays it and likes it.

  • Just a few tweaks would improve it

Great game, great app. Here's my small list of tweaks that would take it from 4 to 5 stars:

    1. True networked multiplayer mode. The Bluetooth multiplayer mode is pretty useless and I'm getting sick of playing against the computer.
    2. The ability to reorganize the board more easily, either an auto-organize or some way to drag whole sets and runs around easily.
    3. The computer always plays in the first row, right above my tiles. i find this annoying and confusing and would like to be able to tell it to skip a row.
    4. Some sort of hint or tutorial mode would be fun. Also variable levels from beginner to expert.
    5. Sometimes it's hard to see what moves the computer has made. It'd be nice to be able to replay the last move more slowly.
    6. When the board is invalid, it would be nice if it pointed out where instead of making you search for it.
    7. Reduce the space devoted to the menu at the bottom of the page and devote this to a bigger board.

  • Multiplayer

Your multiplayer game, while technically correct, was bought with the intention of playing my two friends. But there was no mention of only being for two. It was quite a disappointment to find out you can only play with one other player. I am very disappointed, after shelling out 5 bucks, to find out you can only play with two

  • Lazy iPad upgrade of a great game

I love touch rummy. It has been one of my most played games on my iPod touch, and has a place on my home screen. So when I got my new iPad 2, this was one of the first games I got in the HD form.

At £2.39 it isn't cheap so I was expecting beautiful clear graphics and an iPad UI utilising the extra space offered by the iPad screen.

What I got was what looked like the iPod/iPhone version blown up to fit the screen. The edges of the tiles are fuzzy, and the game layout is identical to the non HD version.

To be honest, as I love this game so much, I would have happily put up with that, but there seem to be problems with multiplayer, and that is how I play this game 95% of the time.

Firstly we had trouble connecting via Bluetooth every time we played. It kept saying that the other person (my friend on iPhone 4) had cancelled the connection, when they were sat right next to me on the sofa and hadn't cancelled at all. However after 4 or 5 goes we always manage to connect. It's a bit of a pain but not the end of the world.

The real problem arises when at some point in the game, normally near the end, I lose the ability to do anything but take another card on my turn. I place tiles on the board but both the undo turn arrow and the checkered flag disappear. If I manually put my tiles back on my rack, the deck appears. This has happened nearly every time we play. It isn't that the moves are invalid. I get the green sparkle on the board to say the move is valid but no option to submit my turn. As the object of this game is to get rid of all your cards/tiles, this bug ends the game halfway through which is so frustrating. Especially if it has been a particularly long game. Yesterday this happened after nearly an hours play on my final turn where I could have gone out. While I was able to show my friend so "won the game" the app couldn't log my win.

I have reported all the above to the devs, and if they fix these problems I will re review. I have given 3 stars because when it works this game is awesome and so much fun. However I have subtracted 1 star for the lazy HD offering, and 1 star for the bug.

  • Fun game - could be a little more challenging

I've had this game for about a month and still am enjoying it. It's more of a problem solving game to me than a battle versus opponent game. The CPU rarely wins, but I also don't play it with the timer on. I am running it on an Ipad 1 and have never had a crash or freeze. If you are familiar with the game from the past, you will enjoy the fun of it. Also, after practicing with this for a month now, I will be able to dominate my game nights at the family cottage this summer.

  • Very nice interface

I wish all my apps were this nice to use. Smooth movement of tiles. Computer is great to play against...not too hard...not too easy. Wish there was a pass and play feature though, and also wish I could play against more than one player/computer to simulate real play. Other than that really a great and addictive game!

  • Nicely done

Well adapted, visually appealing rummy game and a fun 15 to 20 minute break.

Edit to add a fifth star. Three and a half months after download and original Jan review, this game is still on my iPad and gets played all the time. Call it a classic.
  • Dropping out

Have been having a great time with this game but now it is dropping out regularly maybe needs to be reinstalled but then I lose my stats
  • Great but for the spinning!

Love the game and this version is good. The rules are close to the original version and there are plenty of ways to get the play as you want it. The computer is hard to beat, but I like a challenge.
My only complaint is it's just over animated. When a box comes up for you to connect for example the table spins round and round to the point it makes me feel sick! I would love to be able to turn that feature off and have basic game play without the excessive animation. Also playing over Bluetooth is great but when connection gets lost the game is lost too, ability to save at that point would be great. In saying that, its an addictive game, which I now have for iPhone and IPad.
