Not so much
This is a poorly designed learning tool in my opinion. My main complaint is that it doesn't go alphabetically in the 'random' letter selection...not so productive especially for children. It's also way overpriced.
Intro to letters
This is a really good app, and a huge relief that it isn't just American, and most letters sound ok.
However, I have one request for a change and it seems an obvious requirement. On the "random" choice setting, the child is shown how to trace the letter properly, ie the entire route to produce the letter correctly, but on the "ordered" choice, only the starting point is shown - why not the whole route?
Perhaps this level of instruction to the child could be user-controlled in a settings section, so that it could be turned on when the child is first learning and off when they are more proficient.

Almost there
A great app for teaching phonics. Very impressed that you have the option to have a uk english speaker. One negative point though is that some of the phonemes are not pronounced correctly e.g. d is pronounced as "deh" rather than a short "d", and "teh" rather than a short "t". Unfortunately this will mean children having to re-learn those sounds at school.

Mediocre
Ok for tracing letters of you are older, but not for the young ones. If you don't trace in one clean stroke it gets buggy.
Just ok
For how much I paid for this app, I was expecting more in terms of the ability to "write" the letters. There are arrows showing where to draw, but they do not correct the student when they make a mistake and because the letters are so big on the iPad, they could be making the letter completely wrong starting some bad habits...for example, when my daughter was the "k" she drew the long line down, but to draw the next line touching the straight line down is awkward because the letter is so large and looks really funny even if you do it the right way.

No retina version
Good app, however as of version 1.2 there is no retina display support.
I'd love to like it more....
Beautiful to look at, but clunky and restrictive in use. (Relatively) patient iPad loving three year old tired of it very quickly.
Excellent.
My two year old has been using this for months and loves it. He recognized all letters in the alphabet before his friends... Mostly due to this app we think!
Jennibaba
This app is great! It teaches the sound of the letters and how to draw them. capital, small or common letter combinations.
doesn't work
What a waste of $5. The design is fine but it's hard for ME to get the app to respond to touch. My son is frustrated and confused that I can draw a line after 3 tries but he can't at all. Nice way to learn. Annoyed. Wish I could get a refund.
