Intro to letter
This is brilliant! My 4 year old can do this on her own as really feels she is achieving each time she completes a page. As she goes to a Montesorri pre-school it compliments her current style of learning. Buy this app if you are looking to help your child read.
Good for that Kindergarten boost
My daughter grew up in a play-based preschool and never learned letters before kindergarten. We've found the work sheets in kindergarten to be painfully boring. And now she is behind. So, we turned to an app.
My daughter really likes this app and her interest continues. It has good audio feedback (though the drawing sounds irk my 9 year old) and the tracing is fun for her once she got the hang of the touch screen. I like it because there are no singing farm animals, just straight forward, good design letting the letters speak for themselves. My husband and 9 year old want to do it too, but my kindergartner won't share. Also, I'm a UI designer and it's a beautiful product on many levels. (Note: this is my first recommendation. My second will be their Math product - also excellent).

Not worth $6!
I was expecting the app to teach my child how to pronounce the alphabets but instead it only has phonics?! Please update the app to include both pronunciations. Essentially it should read A as A, not just the phonics (eh / ak or whatever).
A little less engaging than the Numbers version
My 4 year old really likes the numbers game, but has gotten pretty bored with this letters version pretty quickly. He knows all his letter and sounds and is already doing some reading. This isn't challenging enough for him to keep him engaged. I thought there might be some ordering or short words involved. If that's what you're looking for, I'd suggest waiting for a words-based app rather than just letters. My two year old likes it though--she's just beginning to learn her letters.

A Gem of an App
I downloaded this for my 5-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son, both of whom are in a Montessori program. My daughter loves the sandpaper letter "tracing", which is much more difficult on an iPad than in real life, so it keeps her interested. Even the sound/letter recognition, which she knows backwards and forward, keeps her engaged because she's on the iPad. For the most part, it's a bit junior for her, though. She's ready for the "next level", which I hope will come out soon. You know...WORDS not just sounds. (The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I thought it should go one more level to create 2- or 3-letter words, at least.) The 2-year-old has been introduced to the sandpapaer letters in school, but he doesn't have the manual dexterity required to be succesful at in on the iPad. Within the next couple of months, though, this will be great for him. I definitely recommend this whether or not your child is in a Montessori program.

Unhappy
It had phonics yesterday when I bought it would of been a easy 5 but 1 day later the only sounds it makes are scribbles then moves to the next letters pretty useless it should be free or at least have phonics that last more then 1 session for $6
Good with some fixable problems
Really nice app, keeps our 4 year old engaged while he learns a few letters at a time. But the tracing function needs to ignore extra touches, especially on iPad, as children are prone to resting their hand on the screen while writing. Good value considering what you can get in printed form for Β£3 but I expected the writing input to not frustrate the child.
Also, recording and playback of the child's voice is a nice feature but the control could be more streamlined, say with an automatic 2-3 seconds record then playback, without requiring 3 taps on the screen.
I don't mean to sound too down on this app, it's good already and would be great with these problems solved in an update.

Worth every cent
This ap, along with intro to numbers are the most fantastic, beautiful, useful, and most used on my iPad. Our 3 year old practices daily, and would for hours if we allowed her. As a parent I appreciate the calm voice, beautiful interface, and pleasant sounds. The one and only application that provides letter sounds that I have found. Lower and upper case lessons make this a long-lasting application. Proof that you don't need cartoony characters, loud annoying audio, or dumbed-down content to capture the attention of a child. A wonderful companion to her Montessori education. Please, more applications Montessorium!

Daughter having fun with this but frustrated as the trace facility is very poor even on brand new iphone4.also uses American English (Z is Zee). Sort trace facility for child finger please.
