Version History of Say Color

1.2.2

December 20, 2018

This app managed to survive in the App store, even though it hadn't been updated since early 2012. A lot has changed since then, including Apple's spiffy new 64-bit processors which won't run my old 32-bit code. So it's time to finally update Say Color for arm64, iOS 12, and a bunch of new iPhone device display sizes. Enjoy.

Description of Say Color

Speaks the name of the nearest color in the center of a camera preview pane using speech synthesis. Can also show and speak the three RGB 255 numbers. If you lock the exposure and color balance (using the lock icon button in the upper right) while aiming at something medium neutral gray under your current scene's lighting, the color naming scheme will be more accurately centered in the RGB gamut.

  • Love it but I wish it had more options!

A great free app that allows you to point your smartphone camera at an object and then press a button to announce the color. I wish there was an option for it to automatically announce each color without pressing a button each time to make it a little easier for blind people to use that are holding other objects and the phone at the same time. I also wish there was a setting to make the color options more basic, instead of advanced colors like maroon or olive green. Overall this is the best free app of its kind that I’ve found. If you’re looking for a free simple app that has audio announcement of colors without a lot of extras this is it.

  • Thanks!

I'm thoroughly satisfied with the functionality of this application. Colorblindness is slightly less of a hindrance than it used to be. Thanks again!
