  • Real GPS

I _love_ a gps solution on my touch and iPad that shows the satellites being received. I've been using GPS for a long time and want to be able to see the current satellite geometry. If you have used a standalone gps in the past and miss having info about the reception, or want to add GPS ability to a touch or iPad that doesn't have it, this is for you.

  • Amazing. Here's to clarify

Awesome product. To those who turn your phone onto airplane mode your an idiot. This is a GPS and when you use google maps all the maps aren't downloaded onto your phone so of course it doesn't work. Get a free gps program or pay for one but don't degrade this product because of your stupidity. I use this product a lot and it works even when I lose cell signal (because I have downloaded maps). Easy to use the first time and every time. Haven't gotten to use it on foot just in a vehicle and can say it is effective even at 125+mph. Great product.

  • Works as promised.

Just download the app, plug in the gps and there you go. I am a pilot and use it while in the plane with Garmin my pilot. Never had any issues
  • Works great with Runkeeper IOS 5

As others have said ignore the folks that can't read directions. Just got one for Xmas and ran six miles with my iPod touch with wireless OFF and it worked fine. Only glitch is how to carry it, that why I gave it four stars not five.
  • Works grate

This app and attached accessory work great. I use this with ForeFlight as a flight instructor and have had no problems.
For all the other people complaining about google maps not working off line need to read the website about what apps work with this.
  • Great to have GPS! Bad ratings=user error

I have been using this, with the $100 unit, for several months. I keep the unit in my purse, ready for any device I bring with. It is fantastic! It works period, no wifi etc required except to update firmware. I use it on iTouch, iPad and a simless iPhone (no 3G on any of these).

You don't need to update the app firmware before each use! (That does require wifi.)

I use the Navfree GPS maps, seamlessly.

Read the directions to set it up and how to use it. At first it is slow for GPS to connect in general, until you use it a few times. Then it will work with compatible maps quickly and automatically. Connect the unit before opening a map. I used it around town to learn and test it.

  • Needs improvement.

While the Bad Elf GPS works OK with my iPod Touch, this app does not seem to be helpful beyond keeping the GPS firmware up to date. It does not act as a status monitor for the Bad Elf GPS. It would be nice if the app were improved to give you information on what exactly the GPS is up to when its LED is flashing. There should be something to tell you the number of satellites it's acquired and how close the unit is to being able to fix your position, what that position's coordinates may be and how uncertain it is. Bad Elf's website recommends Yali Software's GPS Data for this purpose, but the quality of that app is pretty poor, so I regret spending $0.99 on it. Bad Elf should step in and develop this app into a better basic GPS utility and it should remain free, as you have to buy their hardware to get any use from it.

  • Works like I want

I was a little disappointed at first - since I had a hard time charging the ipod through this accessory. However, with the latest firmware update - all issues are resolved. Here's how I use it -
Not wanting to buy an iphone and ATT data plan - I use my Ipod Touch for a lot of things including making phone calls via skype over wifi. The one thing I was missing was the GPS.
I bought the Bad ELF GPS and use it in the car and on my motorcycle. The TomTom application works very well. The one drawback is the battery drain when in use. However, in both the car and motorcycle I have a cigarette lighter plug and a USB adapter that I use. Works well.
I can give this 5 stars since I can now do GPS navigation on my IPOD Touch.

  • Not so bad!

To all of those who said that it's "dependent" and "reliable", come on!. The bad elf gps system is just ok, I have to wait at least 10 minutes to get a satellite signal!! If I havent
Use all day, if you keep in in mind how expensive it is, it's just OK. wouldn't be surprise if these reviews aren't coming from the BadElf team themselves

  • are we there yet?

The answer is no. I agree with some of the other comments. Too bad there isnt a free utility that tells you if the gps is working and dish out some useful data like your location. I guess I have to PURCHASE a "compatible" app for the bad elf since all of the mapping apps that I have only works with wifi.
