In this version, we have fixed an issue with taking photos.

5.0.0

September 3, 2019

Find wheelchair accessible places even faster now. Add and rate places more easily. The map view loads much faster when the app is started. The app is available in 7 additional languages. We have integrated more external data sources so that more places with more detailed information are displayed. The search now allows the correct input of non-Latin characters. You can use the filter options to search specifically for wheelchair accessible WCs. We have improved the layout of the photo gallery. You can report inappropriate or incorrect photos. In the menu item "Events" you can find mapping events in the Wheelmap community all over the world. You can add new places by clicking on "Add new place", making a simple questionnaire appear. There you can answer additional questions about accessibility that are important for blind or deaf people. No registration is required. Find a wheelchair accessible toilet nearest to a place. The traffic light symbols now have different shapes. This is helpful for, amongst others, colour-blind people.

4.1.70

September 13, 2018

- Completely overhauled app design with simplified navigation and a new base map. - With many more additional places! Now, Wheelmap displays wheelchair accessible places not only from OpenStreetMap, but also from FourSquare, HERE WeGo, Jaccede, AXSMap, and from many more data sources, which are regularly updated. You can still edit places that come from OpenStreetMap, the other entries are edited on the corresponding platforms by the communities of our partners. - For many places, Wheelmap now displays more details about accessibility; for example if a place is quiet, if it has automatic doors at the entrance or if there is an induction loop. - Wheelmap shows which public elevators and escalators are in operation. Facilities that are not in service are colored red. By tapping on an elevator, you directly see alternative elevators that you can use. This feature is limited to Germany for now, but we are working on solutions to extend it internationally. - Places are shown in clusters now when you zoom out: This way you can estimate the overall wheelchair accessibility of a whole city district. - It is now easier to tap on single markers because they do not overlap anymore, and the new layout does not hide markers when changing the zoom level. - A faster find-as-you-type search supports fuzzy searches like ‘cafe new york’. - New filter presets allow you to hide everything that’s not important for you. - A new image upload feature has explanations that should lead to better quality photos of places. - Places now have a button to directly open your own default maps application on your phone/tablet at the right location. - You can share places on Whatsapp and Telegram now.

Price History of Wheelmap

Description of Wheelmap

Find wheelchair accessible restaurants, cafes, toilets, shops, cinemas, parking lots, bus stops and much more. The Wheelmap and OpenStreetMap communities have already rated about 1 million places! Ratings for another million places come from a growing number of partners such as Foursquare City Guide, Jaccede, AXSMap, HERE, Parkopedia, bahnhof.de, Mapy bez barier, etc. All in all, you can find accessibility reviews of more than 2,000,000 places on Wheelmap! More entries are added daily. As with Wikipedia, you too can join in and contribute information about places worldwide. This is important, because in some regions of the world there are only a few entries at the moment. Help us improve the map: Rate the entrances and restrooms of public places according to their wheelchair accessibility and upload images of the places. The 30 countries with the highest number of rated places are: Germany (582,174), United States (277,194), India (258,992), France (161,486), South Africa (74,568), Canada (57,247), Czech Republic (53,888) United Kingdom (53,718), Austria (52,253), Italy (40,256), Australia (31,238), Spain (25,905), Algeria (24,657), Japan (21,503), Switzerland (20,820), Taiwan (15,300), Netherlands (15,030), Russian Federation (13,816), Hungary (13,186), Poland (13,056), United Arab Emirates (12,976), Turkey (11,180), Belgium (8,834), Brazil (8,070), Indonesia (7,765), Ukraine (7,495), Republic of Côte d'Ivoire (7,467), Mexico (7,449), Croatia (7,194). Reviews of Wheelmap

Don’t get

Tried it out. You cant search anywhere you need to go. It seems that its only rated based on what the companies reported. It only works one way and it not a good way. Doesn’t work with what you need. Can’t even categorize your searches or it deletes the couple things that are rated. You cant see more about the place other than what the computer defined the place biased on accessible, partially accessible, or not at all/ no data.

No built in wayfinding

Would really benefit from built in wayfinding. Otherwise it not bad but lacking in Australia

A work in progress

This is an app in progress, and as such I would rate it at two stars. However, I’m adding an extra star to reflect the positive contact I had with the developer. I expect that over time as the app is further developed my rating will rise. It’s a good idea and one I’d like to participate in.

Response from developer

I'm sorry you did not have a good experience. You are right, the default language for the "add new place" is in German today. But you can switch it to English! We plan to integrate the form into our app but as a non-profit organization we have scarce resources so this may take a little more time. I hope you try the form again in English.
