  • Love SkyView! Get This App!

    Written Thursday, July 4, 2024

    This app is great because (1) it has a red horizon line to separate the horizons, (2) the stars, planets, moon, sun, basically everything out there is pretty much accurate, (3) when you tap on a planet or star or anything there’s information about that tapped thing and there’s an “i” in a circle at the top right of the gray info box and when you tap on it it’ll give you more information about the thing you tapped, (4) my favorite thing is when you tap on a magnifying glass at the top right of the screen it takes you to a menu with three options at the bottom of the screen. When you tap on “sightings” there’s a list of that night’s sightings. You can tap a box next to the sighting(s) you want to see and it’ll give a notification before its time and when its time. And thanks for taking the time to read this long, lengthy review.

  • A few problems

    Once I was using this app outside. The moon was bright and clear, but somehow the app said it was on the other half of the earth… Not sure if this is a general problem or just something with my settings. If it is a problem with the app, I hope it can get fixed as soon as possible. Anyway, this app is very informative and is fun to use. There are dozens of constellations I never even knew about! I recently downloaded SkyView lite, and the app was amazing. I wanted to find more things because it got pretty boring just looking at the same stars and planets. I received a telescope on my birthday and I wanted to use it but I couldn’t tell the difference between all of the objects. This app is so useful but it can have some better things. For example, I want to find a star in the sky but because I have to manually move the device, it makes me dizzy all the time and I can easily lose the star. Overall, nice app.

  • The stupid camera!

    Update: Unfortunately, I was looking in the settings to turn off the camera. It’s not in the settings. The “movie camera” icon is what turns it off. I never considered it because, well, it was a movie camera icon and I thought tapping that would start recording a movie. Sheesh. I guess I need to start thinking that icons don’t really mean what they depict. lol

    I gave the app more stars.
    ====================
    The stupid camera is always on and trying to find anything is ruined by the camera viewing everything around you. All the constellations and planets are so faint I can’t see them unless I’m looking straight overhead at night. If I want to see where something is that’s just on the horizon (even at night) I have to try to see where it is through the camera showing me a view of my neighbor’s house. I have to cover my camera lens to see where anything is that is not overhead at night. Can’t the camera be turned off? I can’t find any setting for it. Any help with this will result in more stars. Or I just have to delete an app I paid for.
