As an accessible implementation of the Supermemo algorithm of about 20 years vintage this is an excellent start. For all of you who are happy with the idea of getting into your first few thousand Chinese words by learning the standard E <—> C equivalents, with Chinese audio, just get stuck into it. It could use a few improvements: one might be to reverse the card order on demand. I'm sure the developers will listen to suggestions made, taking the most popular first.
There is a simple 'Study Mode' which is probably the way to start. Then a 'Progressive Study' which increases intervals between repetitions of the flash cards as your confidence level increases from previous attempts to remember. This is extraordinarily efficient study as it does not waste time repeating stuff you already know well. Once a card has been learnt and repeated a few times you will notice it doesn't come up again till you are on the verge of forgetting it: when it takes an effort to recall, and repays you with one more good step to very long term memory.
If one card is frustratingly difficult decrease the confidence level you give it: it will pop up relatively sooner next time. If another card is just tooo easy: increase the confidence score and it will go and hide until it takes more effort to recall. The only ways to fail at Brainscape and Supermemo style flashcards are to be erratic in doing repetitions; to leave 10,000 cards to the last 3 days before exams or to be manic compulsive and try to learn 1,000,000 cards in the first month. Reading up on Supermemo on the web would help normal mortals do very well with it.
Brainscape Blogs are useful support, too. Good luck! Then go on to authoring your own decks. The good ones may be bought by other users.
