  • Wish I found this earlier!

Still a 4.5-5 star app. Just love having access to my movies on my Mac on my iPad and iPhone. Since the latest (and crappy iOS update) I do have some occasional problems starting movies. They Queue up but don't start. It's usually when I'm in bed on the second floor of my house so maybe it's just a connection issue but I do have the best that Comcast has to offer. Just curious if others have run into this? Sometime restarting my iPad or deleting and restarting the movie does work.

What an amazing app! I've been continuously watching the same 6 movies I've bought from iTunes on my iPad before I go to bed or HBOGO. This allows me to access my full library of movies on my computer's HD. Just for fun I tried to stream from three different devices simultaneously and it worked perfectly! What a bargain at $1.99. I've been a fan of the VLC player for years now and this just adds to my adoration ten fold!

  • It works for me.

I was surprised when I saw the bad reviews for this. I've been using it for over a year now without problems. My iMac is in the downstairs office, my iPad sits on the bathroom sink as I have a bath. Takes about 10seconds to load the movie, then streams it fine for me. I use the high quality setting (there is a higher setting I don't use as I found it stuttered a bit) and have had no delay or stutters. There is also an option to save the movie to your iPad if you want to watch it away from your wifi connection. I'm unsure if it works on 3G as I don't use it for that purpose, but for what I use it for I love it.

The above review was my review from a year or so ago, I have noticed over the past few months the audio goes out of sync with certain files, if I quit and restart the app the problem fixes itself, of course this is extremely frustrating, but overall it's still a great app.

  • Handy tool, works well (mostly)

Functionality like this should really come built-in to iOS, but never mind – this app is inexpensive and usually works.

Times it hasn't worked: the day I first installed it, it streamed nicely to my iPhone but not to my iPad. The next day the glitch had mysteriously fixed itself and hasn't given me any trouble since.

Also, sometimes the downloadable streaming application for the Mac seems prone to generate blocky artifacts, particularly at higher data rate.

Other than that – no complaints.

  • Helpful

This app is good for when friends are over and using my computer I can still watch videos. It loads fast, it's great.
  • Works great with Apple TV

If you have your movie collection in multiple formats the ideal thing to do would be to format them all for Apple TV (but keep your originals) but in the mean time while you never get around to that VLC Streamer is the app for you. Through the years I have collected a rather large movie collection. And as hard drive space became cheaper I began to make digital copies to keep on my hard drive. And through the years formats changed from one to another and I expect them to keep changing as hard drive space gets cheaper and playback methods improve. That's why VLC is so great it plays just about any format and with the streamer you log into your computer go to the hard drive you have your movies stored on and you pick out what you want to play and then tap the button to send the video to any of your apple tv's you have set up in your house. It works great. I don't remember what it cost but its worth every penny. In short it gives you the simplest way to access movies off any of your hard drives and play them back through Apple TV in any format. Or through iOS devices.

  • Great app but...

This is a great app very easy to use and does what it should but, for some reason the quality of the video has not been the same as the first couple of weeks. Not sure how it changed but now the audio lags constantly and there's crossover between shots. Frustrating because to start with I had not one poor conversion, now I can't get one good one. Any ideas?

  • Magnificent in its simplicity

Quickly and easily does exactly what it's designed to do; stream and/or copy videos from your computer to your iPad, iPhone or iPod. Works with all the common video file formats. It's even simpler than syncing via iTunes! Best app I've ever purchased.
  • Very versatile and useful

This app has enabled me to wirelessly view (on my iPhone and iPad) the TV shows and movies that are stored on a seagate hard drive that's connected (via USB) to an Apple AirPort Extreme router. I've been using this app for a few months now and have successfully watched movies and TV shows over home wifi on iOS devices in the following file formats :- .mp4, .avi, & .mkv.

  • Great but a little buggy

This is fantastic for streaming videos from my MacBook over to my iPad which is use in the lounge with my projector. However I've had two films stop buffering at around 38 minutes in. Also I've had issues with the screen going blank if I pause the film for a while and then I haven't been able to get the image back, but I think this might have more to do with the video-out on the iPad more than VLC streamer software. If the developer fixes the buffering issue it'll be perfect (that is assuming others have run into this problem?).
