Reviews of Tampa Bay Times

  • Please fix the links In this version 3.7.1!

I was happy with the last version but the links to continue an article on another page don’t work. It’s very frustrating scrolling the pages and the pop up of the whole article don’t take you to wear you left off. Also, what’s with the ads at the bottom of every page? We pay for this app to the newspaper. Otherwise I much prefer the digital paper to the actual paper.
  • Disappointing update

We are long time subscribers to the Times and were “OK” with the move to a purely digital subscription. We weren’t thrilled that the price when UP with the change, but willing to pay for the journalistic effort. However, the new app update is very disappointing! We pay subscription fees for a purely digital product and yet have ads scrolling on EVERY page of the digital paper at the bottom - obscuring portions of the paid news!! Unbelievable that the same obnoxious, scrolling ads that show up on unpaid apps are appearing on every page of the newspaper we pay for. The new app also removes one of the best features of the old app - the ability to tap one button and skip a section. Now you have to scroll through all the pages to get to the next section. The additional pages of news are OK, but as has been noted in other reviews - they are days if not a week old when they’re put in the paper. Not really “news” at that point. Hopefully there are improvements before we have to make our decision on our annual renewal.
  • Updated app a “meh” and a few issues

There will be people who are excited about the updated app, but I am not one. I do not find it significantly improved and discovered almost all pictures are more pixelated now using my iPad Pro. The comics appear at lower resolution than the prior version of the app; after learning the older app page navigation, I anticipated this version would be seamless - it’s not bad, but certainly not improved. I guess I’ll try it for a while more, but I’m not sure I enjoy reading the paper in this format. I would be interested in seeing the results of your beta test versions focus groups, and the respective ages of those involved.
