  • Needs more work

I finally got to use this app last night at a live solo gig and was not thrilled. I discovered that the playback function does not stop after each track but continues onto the next song. However you don't know this because the lyrics don't change.

Also, if you have a multi page doc and you are on page 2, you lose the play button on the bottom. The playback button is incredibly small and hard the use.

If you zoom in on any lyrics or start flicking back and forth between songs or pages that app will randomly crash.

I eventually went back to my laptop for the backing tracks and used this app purely for lyrics, but it still crashed several times which makes it almost worthless in any real world scenario and only good for the practice room where time is not of the essence.

    Needs more work.

Since this review was posted, the recording playback was changed to stop after each song by default, and the screen layouts were made customizable so you can make the buttons as large as you want.
  • Fantastic little app!

I downloaded the app a few weeks ago, and have been toying with it since, and have to say I find it very well thought out and practical. The rest of the band downloaded it, and we have synced up our devices to always have an updated set list. It's a little confusing at first, but once you designate a band member to keep the master list, it's pretty easy to stay in sync.
The developer is very responsive to input (I haven't made any, but reading past reviews, you can see he incorporated suggestions into the next update). Honestly, this is the first app where I thought I'd paid too little. The app itself is a free download, and works outstandingly well for a solo performer. Keep in mind: for free! Only if you want some added functionality do you have to lay down some money, and even that is extremely reasonable. I only needed the syncing functionality, but added the MIDI support in-app purchase as a way to support to developer's efforts.
Bottom line: get it, it's free. Don't like it? Make suggestions, and I'd be surprised if they aren't in the next upgrade. Cheers!

  • Brilliant App

This app is Gold!!! & should be a must for all performing musicians.
Quite simply, the ability to organize and carry all my sets, recordings & charts together in a neat database is priceless!!!
I've sampled a few of the other offerings out there with regards to set/chart management software but Set List Maker is the best!
The features of Set List are powerful & almost never ending... It has been a joy to keep discovering what the app can actually do.
It works intuitively & just gets better with every update, the latest of which (2.3) has basically answered all of my wishes... I look forward to the future releases.
    Great Work!!!!!

  • The reason I have an iPad

    Thankyou Arlo.
This app (as you know) has been an amazing tool for me.
The best thing about this app is the Arlo is the only person working on the app and when we have ideas or feedback he is the one that receives and replies to the emails.
Advanced features becoming available on this app are making it the industry leader of this style technology/application.
As a drummer I make use of the bluetooth foot control, midi clock send, and program change sends. Playing 6nights a week in 5star hotels there is no room for error. I have a Yamaha DTX Multi 12 which I run loops and triggers from. With the app and program change abilities by moving to the next song in performance mode my Yamaha changes, the click changes and it all syncs up beautifully.
I could not be more impressed by this app.
Well done Arlo. I have been spreading the word and I hope the app continues to get the praise it deserves!
    Cheers
    Sam

  • Problematic

Works ok for basic setup of a setlist and sharing via the incorrectly named sync function (in app purchase)

    Three biggest issues are;
    1. The sync is not a sync. Another persons changes are easily over written, which results in regularly having to roll back to get a working version of the setlist. Last in best dressed, not sync.
    2. I'm always scared to update, I'm never quite sure what functions might break, and since the other band members might not update we seem to get corruptions all the time.
    3. There is no autoscroll for charts. I play an instrument so can't just reach down and tap the screen to change pages... Unless I want to use my nose...

Since this review was posted, the sync function was made more granular, with changes from different devices merged automatically and with the ability to roll back any past edit. Auto-scroll functions were also added.
  • More than meets the eye!

As a working cover band we are forever trying to refine our setup and this app goes a long way to streamlining it. Originally wanting a simple setlist "compiler", we've since found this app to be much more powerful. Syncing our setlist with other band members is fantastic.
Arlo has been super responsive to any questions I've had and I highly recommend this app to any musician that wants to streamline their setup.

  • Great app

I am a performing musician and I find this app invaluable - it has a simple, functional and stable interface for my 100+ songs. Easy to see on a dark stage too! The app is also frequently updated. Well done.
  • Great detail-oriented app! A drag when adding songs!

I LOVED this app until I needed to add songs! You need to buy the upgrade that lets you import song titles from a file or playlist, otherwise you need to type your entire setlist one by one. The $0.99 is not the issue, but creating a playlist just to be able to then import it and carry over all song titles is definitely unnecessary work in my opinion. Other apps like GigBook makes that much easier. The way you add shows, etc to the Data base is also a bit of a drag. Again, GigBook makes that so much easier although is much less detail-oriented. I LOVE all the extra features that setlist has... The ability to know the total time for the show is awesome, the label feature, the style, the tempo, etc. Great thinking!!!! AND I also love to be able to LISTEN TO THE TRACK WHILE I'M READING THE LYRICS OR PLAYING THE CHART!!!! One questiong... will you be coming up with a version that would let you upload a lyrics pdf and a Music Chart pdf? Way to go guys! Work on the way you add songs and simplify your platform a bit and I'm your forever! ;)

p.s. Checkout GigBook! They actually did a great job in those aspects.

  • All bands need this!

This is an amazingly genius app. I find myself scrambling to make a set list each night because I usually am concerned with so many other things on show nights, but with this app I can actually have a drink and socialize in between sets. The color labeling option is perfect to help create a set that has diversity that isn't too abrupt. I use faster songs as red, mellow ones as green, and soulful or bluesy songs as purple, giving me the visualization of a spectrum and using that to have better flow each night. All bands should use this, it's lazy and impersonal to play the same set list every night.

The app comes with plenty of different ways for you to make notes and reminders for instrument changes, tuning changes, capo positions, lyrics, and anything else you need. It's as complex or as simple as you want it to be.

I have rarely written a review for apps nor felt the urge to do so, however this app deserves praise for being such a great idea. Plus when I emailed for suggestions, the creator actually read it...and emailed me back! Download it, and use it!

  • One of those apps that you wonder how you ever got along without

Obviously, this isn't an app that everyone has a need for. But for those of us who lead bands, it is truly a godsend - the sort of thing that really justifies having an iPad in the first place. In my case, I am an educator directing several different combos and a big band, plus my own personal projects. I use this app to track the pieces we are working on in rehearsal, to help prepare set lists for gigs, and then to act as my set list and metronome (already programmed with the right tempos) at the gig, plus my notes on who solos on what for talking to the audience, and even the charts themselves. I plan to also use this to help me plan the track listing for upcoming CD's, and I'm sure I'll find more uses as well.

The developer is extremely responsive about fixing bugs and adding features. So if you see older reviews from people who have had problems, you can absolutely bet those problems have been fixed - assuming they weren't just user error, which a lot of the reports in older reviews sound like to me.
