Bring fatmaps back

I appreciate that this is a good app, but for the things I use it for, it is still very much shadowed by how great fatmaps was. I’m not sure why it was incorporated as the two apps seem to do completely different things. Please, please bring fatmaps back. It was unrivalled in its ability to aid exploration. Strava is excellent for exercise and tracking progress etc, but fatmaps was exceptional at inspecting local landmarks, lookouts, national parks, and the 3D features seem far superior too. Not ripping into Strava, as it serves its purpose and excels at it. But fatmaps filled a void no apps seem to be able to fill including Strava. If the team is set on having them stay incorporated, maybe have a completely seperate part of the app for exploration/3D maps and inspectable landmarks and POI’s.
Cheers,
Wes

Was once really a good app, very annoying now

At one point I was a big Strava fan but their product changes lately induce increasing frustration and seem designed to force “engagement” - for example the incessant prompt to name my workouts that was rolled out recently pisses me off. The weird AI integration recaps what I already knew about my workout and makes me feel as though I have no sense of what’s going on with my body. I can’t stand reading the recaps.

Strava also messed up with the Fatmap integration. They purchased a useful product and destroyed the features that made it so. Fatmap standalone app was easy to load, pan and zoom, find slope angles, and study routes planned or travelled. Strava seems to be struggling with 3D basics.

Maybe this is all intentional and Strava is redesigning itself to alienate a segment of users like myself. After 6+ years as a loyal user I’m looking for Strava alternatives (my Garmin app combined with OnX backcountry seems like a good combo) - I find the app increasingly cumbersome, commodified and useless. Not sure why I would pay annually for it collect my data, when I get superior fitness tracking features with Garmin.

Difficult to Navigate

I paid for a year’s subscription with the hope to find one app I can log and track, all my activities in which are Hiking in the winter and gym workouts all year, in the summer kayaking and Paddle boarding. I like the 3D map when route is finished, especially hiking and paddling. However if I start my hike in my Apple Watch it gets it right, if I try to record an activity on my phone it defaults to Paddle boarding. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Trying to navigate back after a hike to edit my stopping point as I often forget to stop or start my watch is frustrating. I enjoyed my trail forks app more or All trails but no charts. I think it is trying to be good at everything and it needs some help. I do not think the integration with Apple IOS is very good. I wanted to love this but just frustrated. I suspect it keeps defaulting to paddle-boarding on my phone because that was my primary activity in the Summer. I have to go back in and edit the hike to fix the activity because the phone app defaults to record paddle and I can’t change it until after my hike. I usually start from my Apple watch but I do not always have it with me. I also wanted to set up Siri shortcut but only run or walk seems to be choice. Since I paid for it I will use it until then. Voice control would have been best or a phone shortcut.

C’mon it’s Strava, the standard app for workout tracking

There’s a few things that annoy me about the app, some of which may be strava’s issue and some of which may be apple’s limitations on integration and data access. Mainly because I use my Apple Watch to track my heart rate. So I can get heart rate integration only in Apple’s workouts app. I can’t work out how to get an integrated view of heart rate AND power in Strava. Apple’s workout app is hit and miss with the power integration, even when my watch connects via Bluetooth to the power meter. I wish Strava could do this integration for me.

What it really could use is a way ‘merge’ workouts that Strava imports from both my Apple watch and from my Wahoo ELEMNT bike computer. I often have to review each of them and then delete or hide one or the other in the app.

Strava PLEASE work with Apple on getting read access to Apple Watch heart rate data and read/write access to cycling power data!

Otherwise there’s little to complain about. Strava works well for me otherwise.

Great app but a few suggestions

This app is great, and is amazing for tracking weekly mileage, shoe mileage, and other people’s runs. It’s also great for looking back and seeing how past activities felt. However, the design of it could use some improvements. First is the discrepancies between the browser and app. The app now has dark mode but why not the browser version? The browser has a different look and has entirely different ways of seeing data that aren’t in the app or some data that can’t be seen. Most importantly, why doesn’t the app have correct distance? The best thing would be to take the best parts of each and combine them together to be more similar. A change I didn’t like was that to see your own profile you have to click into a different tab which is annoying, overall design and layout could be improved. Also some random bugs, when importing from Apple Watch it miscalculates the elevation which should be fixed. Again, absolutely great app but these changes would make it seem more polished and user friendly.

Dark mode.

Finally. Honestly I have used Strava for so many years now there is no way I could give it less than 5 stars but dark mode finally finishes it off. One day I will find a good enough excuse to subscribe but the free version is just ideal for casual users who want to make outdoor exercise into a game.
Love you Strava, always have.

If it wasn’t on Strava it didn’t happen

Strava is the best way to record ALL you physical activities. I run 6 days a week and open Strava more then 10 times a day 😂
I love it so much and records all my information so well giving me weekly, monthly and yearly summerations of all my activities, helping me understand how I can improve based on my pace and heartrate.
If you don’t have Strava- your crazy.

Best Training-activity App for tech nerds like me

Ok, I have used Strava for long long time for free but then had to pay to get the full option- feature number of years ago. However, never looked back and content to pay for all the data and analysis, including KOM, best effort comparison etc. (as long as Strava doesn’t put up the price too much, last one was quite big) I was advised I am in top 1% user group in terms of activity so I get the most value from Strava. If you are not planning on doing much activity, then will need to assess your needs, interests against $ you need to pay for full option.

Weekly Snapshot unecessary

I am a long term user and fan of the Strava app, but feel the recently implemented 'Weekly Snapshot' feature at the top of the feed is a design fault. It is really depressing to be confronted by downward pointing arrows if you have a slow start to the week. The only possible interpretation of a downward pointing arrow is negative. This does not inspire or empower me to run more; it simply makes me feel stressed and unhappy, as though I am now playing catch up. It is also appropriate to point out that it really is not a good a good idea to constantly strive for more activities, more time running and more km all the time. The Weekly Snapshot only rewards an upward pointing arrow for more, more, more ad infinitum. Sometimes an easy week or a few days rest is what the body needs. Or sometimes many of us just don't have the time to run. So I see the Weekly Snapshot as a negative, guilt inducing feature. A nagging, negative presence. It certainly makes my experience of the app far less enjoyable. Please at least let users disable the Weekly Snapshot. I really don't need the Strava app to start making me feel stressed and guilty every time I open it.

Premium asks are getting spammy

The number of premium pop-ups in app have changed from once or twice a week to no coming up two or more times between opening the app and updating the gear used in a synced activity. I think that’s a bit much.

Also, not appreciating the change in behaviour for the “you” button. I liked having the profile details right there instead of having it buried in a little icon.
