No alternate routes

The app shows only one option to get to your destination, the route I was going on led me to a road with no bike lanes where the speed limit was 80 km/h (50 mph) so I turned back and was unable to get a better route with the app. It is good concept but has poor execution, there are little to no explanations on what certain features do, although most are easy to understand. Having voice directions under a paywall is also kind of bad especially considering that most other regular map apps have it for free. This app is probably ok for short distances but I would recommend using a different app.

Works perfectly for my needs

Works just like I want it

thanks for your kind words! we hope you enjoy your cycling!

Fabulous routes

Sends us down roads and paths we wouldn’t have found otherwise. Great for avoiding car traffic and traffic lights. Occasionally the off road options are a bit crowded with pedestrian traffic but then it is easy to reroute. Love this app.

Thank you for the great feedback! We hope you enjoy your cycling!

It would be nice if the did what it said it did

I don’t understand the strategy of saying this app does something when it just doesn’t. I get you want more downloads for the add impressions, but it’s just a frustrating waste of time.

Hi Seth - thank you for the feedback - Would you mind contacting us at feedback@cyclema.ps to tell us what the app didn't do ? As far as we're aware, it's a Cycle Route Planner and tracker and works pretty well :-) Ad impressions earn a tiny about of money and so wouldn't be worth any bad publicity. Thank you for your time!

Mobility Scooter User

I use CycleMaps for my mobility scooter journeys and for the most part it has been very useful. One problem though has been curbs, cycles can traverse them but scooters can’t. I had to make a major diversion which doubled my journey time and made me very late for my appointment. A mobility scooter option would be great. Another potential problem is rough or unpaved pathways. So far I have been lucky but I am now wary and check out on google before taking a chance. Unpaved paths are also weather dependent and can be impassable to mobility scooters in wet weather. Specifying paved and unpaved would be very useful. Being able to create a route without internet access would also be very helpful, especially for creating a return journey. Several times I have needed a reverse route to get home but haven’t had an internet connection at my destination. Finally, it would be nice if the speed used to estimate journey times could be changed. I use both 4mph and 8mph scooters, one for bus journeys and one for others. It would be useful to be able to swap between them according to the one I am using, especially when catching a bus. These features would be worth upgrading to a subscription version.

Response from developer

Hi there - thank you very much for your review and we’re very happy you find CycleMaps helpful for your use. We’re working on adding route options to avoid unpaved routes. You can currently do that if you add a waypoint that avoids the unpaved route- unfortunately you need to know that the route is unpaved in the first place. As for speed used to calculate an ETA- CycleMaps uses a default speed until it learns how fast you move. This might not work if you have 2 speeds at which you move by- CycleMaps will just give you an average. We’re considering giving the user the option to set the speed. Thanks again for getting in touch!

@@Love it

Hi

A great option, some cool features!

I have only used for about 50km of riding, in EU, but it promises to be great. I have often used G***le maps for its offline feature, but that doesn’t allow bike layers in offline mode. This also allows different map options, so it will be fun to try bike routes with Apple and OpenStreet maps. I like the bike computer function, fun to see how fast I go down some large hills and to moderate my pace on rides I don’t want to get all sweaty!
The health integration is great, as is the privacy approach! The auto stop/start seems great for tracking to reduce distractions at the more dangerous times (intersections for example).
Two critiques so far, when stopping to inspect the map a few times, it seemed to start flipping orientation randomly. This was an intermittent error. Also at one point the map started flashing as if my screen LEDs were in strobe mode, perhaps a bug conflicting with the outdoor brightness function of the phone.
Thanks for the single family purchase option, keep up the great work and thanks for this great resource!

You have left the route

Very simplistic app. The map was accurate but the voice controls were not. The first ride it didn’t know where I was and it kept telling me to return to route - for 15 miles!
The return trip was better but the voice guidance would tell me to turn after I passed the intersection. Many roads were unnamed roads to the app.
I had to rely on voice because the map was too small for me to see all the turns. There isn’t a way to enlarge the map without messing the route. I’ll try the apps interface with google maps tomorrow to see if that is better.
I wish I could change the app volume or his voice. Hard to hear.
I wish there was a way to listen to the voice before I paid for the service.
Big regrets so far.

Cannot even install

For some reason, I was not able to install the app. freezes at the beginning here I click on the Location and Motion icons (allowing for motion detection and location) I tried three times (iPad 3, v. 15.5)

Good app

I just have to get used to it. How do you save a route?
