I paid for the premium because I was so impressed by the route planning feature on desktop, with the ability to then follow those routes from the phone. Being able to draw a map and set it to prioritise cycle paths is exactly what I wanted.
However, when it comes to actually following that route via GPS the experience is buggy and lacking. For example:
- The route would randomly stop and tell me to “resume” with no option to actually do so, unless I end the ride entirely and start again - The tracking seems to randomly cancel my ride recording id started in another app or does not sync to Apple Health properly, resulting in rides not being tracked at all - The general experience of directions is poor compared to what you might be used to in Apple or Google Maps
If it was possible to set a route in Bike Map but follow the GPS in Apple Maps this would be perfect.
Aside from that, the overall UX is greatly bogged down by random things I don’t really care for. Getting to a planned route and starting it is a long journey through the menus.
Ultimately I regret paying for a year now. Hopefully it will see some improvements because I really do like the idea behind the mapping feature!
