Great route planning let down by GPS and Tracking

I paid for the premium because I was so impressed by the route planning feature on desktop, with the ability to then follow those routes from the phone. Being able to draw a map and set it to prioritise cycle paths is exactly what I wanted.

However, when it comes to actually following that route via GPS the experience is buggy and lacking. For example:

- The route would randomly stop and tell me to “resume” with no option to actually do so, unless I end the ride entirely and start again
- The tracking seems to randomly cancel my ride recording id started in another app or does not sync to Apple Health properly, resulting in rides not being tracked at all
- The general experience of directions is poor compared to what you might be used to in Apple or Google Maps

If it was possible to set a route in Bike Map but follow the GPS in Apple Maps this would be perfect.

Aside from that, the overall UX is greatly bogged down by random things I don’t really care for. Getting to a planned route and starting it is a long journey through the menus.

Ultimately I regret paying for a year now. Hopefully it will see some improvements because I really do like the idea behind the mapping feature!

Stupid app

Used the free trial to see how it works. Chose a route to start but it kept asking me to go to the opposite direction instead of just guiding me to the route where I’m heading. Useless.

Pause doesn’t work

I just simply want to record ride with my son and he does take a break once in a while so I pause and i don’t move the bike or the phone. But when I resume, it always says start new recording so I don’t really get the data we want. The planned map is good.

Awesome Ride!

I was alerted that my subscription was about to renew, but I had some doubts about renewing.

I was unsure about continuing with the subscription as I had experienced some confused routes and directions in the past. The map planning seemed off. But something has changed!

I had been off the road for a good number of months until my bike was finally fixed last week.

Not sure if it was the recent update but I used Bikemap last Friday and the route it planned for me for a 4+ hour round trip was awesome.

It was a huge improvement. I enjoyed the route it chose for me so much I’m renewing my subscription, it’s worth it just for that experience alone!

False advertising on free account functions

I inputted a destination, tap “navigate” and I get a nice beautiful map. I can see all the ‘locked’ features, and I can appreciate them but don’t need them for now. The app shows that tapping “Start” navigation isn’t a locked feature - but then you get to a screen where there are two options to navigate and bother options are ‘locked’ as premium.

If both options to navigate are locked, then wouldn’t navigating itself by locked and the developers would want to put a ‘locked’ symbol at start?? Otherwise the developers are promising unlocked (free) functionality that isn’t actually there.

This all had me confused (thinking: so I can’t use this app to navigate?). Then I read the bottom “you can change these navigation options in settings”. I go to ‘settings’ and then ‘navigate’ and see three options. The free option is: “allow skip choosing which mode to navigate” - this isn’t a real option but just allow you to make a default setting, and then the other two options are the actually navigating options which are both locked.

Confusing, misleading, and then ultimately, useless as a free app.

The app looks great but I’d like to try it before shelling out $15/mo

I’m left feeling very disgruntled.

Hi, sorry you are unhappy that some features require the Premium version. This is necessary so that we can keep building Bikemap sustainably. We hope you understand that. Please note that you can still record rides and plan routes for free. We also offer trials. Thanks & happy cycling! 💙🚲

Do you folks ride?

After doing a local, out and back, to get acquainted with bike maps, I discovered it’s fondness for it to send me down dirt roads. After discovering that you can turn off gravel roads in the settings, I thought rides would be limited to paved roads, as 700 series tires aren’t great on anything much more than tar. For 2 days straight in Maine, it has sent me down dirt roads that would be considered fire break trails, and if you do try and walk the original estimate of 5 miles, it will tell you to continue 15 more, then 10 more after that. Bike maps has a habit of giving you one estimate of a ride from your kitchen table, the mileage may be within 10 % of actual, but elevation will be off by 50%.

Useless without paying

You can't even get satellite maps without paying. Who's pay $65 a year for a map. Look elsewhere. I'd prefer ads for free and paying to remove ads and get more advanced features then no ads while locking every little thing behind a paywall.
