Version History of RetirePlan

2.0.6

April 9, 2024

Greatly improved scrolling for phone users. Buttons should not longer fall off the bottom of the screen on smaller phones, and scrolling around to view everything should be much more natural.

More

2.0.5

April 4, 2024

- Minor bug fixes - Migrated to new AppStore account to prepare for new updates

2.0.4

February 16, 2024

Fixed two issues: - If you try to Duplicate a Scenario when you have used up all your Scenarios, you will now receive an error message, rather than an infinite spinner. - Sharing a Scenario will now use your customized name for each Event (e.g. "My Favorite Pension" instead of just "Receive Pension").

More

2.0.3

January 30, 2024

- Fixed year summary being cut off in Landscape mode on smaller/older iPads - Added an FAQ question on why Required Distribution shows up twice on the Spreadsheet View

More

2.0.2

January 25, 2024

- Created a Landscape Layout that is much more like the original version of RetirePlan. This has all of the options in a list on the left side of the screen, super easy to scroll through, and you can click to edit right there. We loved this layout in the old version, so we've done our best to bring it back in the new version. The Portrait Layout still has the bottom section scrolling horizontally, which works much better on smaller screens and especially phones. - Changed text description from "Show Inflation" to "Show Market Rates" in the Options dialog, and added a more detailed description to reflect that this option also enables you to edit your Rate of Return. - Added Cost of Living Adjustment to Pensions.

More

2.0.1

December 6, 2023

- Added a breakdown in the Spreadsheet view for Taxable Income, so you can see how we got to this number. - Fixed a problem for users upgrading from the older version of this app. - Various bug fixes and tweaks around the product

More

2.0.0

November 17, 2023

This is both a redesign and a reimplementation of the entire app! It looks way better, it still does all the same great things, and now you can use it across multiple devices!

More

1.19.2

May 29, 2023

Fixed an issue where the app launches and appears to be blank. In Portrait mode you can always use your finger to "slide in" from the left, and it will pull the details back. Improved support for dark mode and larger font sizes (it's not perfect, but you can now *see* everything!).

More

1.19.1

May 14, 2023

Fixed Dark Mode so that text is visible

1.19

May 12, 2023

Updated iOS version and libraries, and corrected support URL.

Description of RetirePlan

RetirePlan is an iPad app that helps you answer all your questions about your retirement. If you have questions about your retirement finances, this is the app to answer them. When can I retire? How much do I need to save every year? How much money will I get every year in my retirement? How long will my money hold out in my retirement? In just a few seconds you can enter your data and assumptions and the graph will update to show you if your plan will work. If you have more time to spend you can enter as much detail as you want to refine your plan. The sliders give you an easy way to see what different values will do to your plan. Need to enter a value outside the slider range? press the amount and a calculator will pop up to let you enter whatever number you need. The slider range will update automatically. Bring up the spreadsheet to see all the details for every year of the plan. Email your results. Use the settings to add your spouse, include or remove Social Security, and show or hide inflation and interest rates. Use the + button to add a pension, send a child to college, large upcoming expenses, add additional rates of return and retirement income assumptions. include Tax assumptions to get an even more accurate picture of your future.

  • It keeps getting worse

This was a great app 10-15 years ago when I bought it. Easy to use, didn’t require an account (wherein my data can be stolen) and didn’t lose my spreadsheets. This latest revision undid all that. Numbers I’d entered years ago are lost and now I can’t see how that plan worked out. Navigating is more difficult; I can’t just type in a number but have to use their goofy and uncontrollable slider. The y-axis scale changes as I enter new data. This app just keeps getting worse with every revision and it’s time I found a new one. You should, too.

  • An Outstanding Aid to Retirement Planning

I made a previous, positive review of this app, but now that I have had an opportunity to play more with it I owe it to the author to expand my review. This app allows you to factor in market corrections, major crashes, and changes in portfolio rates of return as one gets older. In addition, it allows the user to factor in a variety of future expenses and income streams. For the small cost this planning app is an essential tool for evaluating risk tolerance scenarios and life changes. I recommend it to everyone.

  • Welcome improvement - excellent customer service!

After using this app and loving it for several years, the visual layout and functionality was totally redesigned last year. At that time, the app took 10 steps backward, IMO, and I gave it a one star review and began looking for another retirement app. >>> UPDATE: I also sent an email to the developer stating my complaint. To his credit, he responded quickly and communicated the reasoning behind the update AND addressed some of the issues that I had. The most recent update is a much improved version, I am updating my review to four stars. I still like the previous version (prior to the redesign) better, but for now, this is a very good app.
