Great for own tracks

It’s really making a difference to my hearing skills. For my on tracks would it be possible to choose a length of the sample from my tracks?

Such a simple app but really useful for training one’s ear

A very well designed app that is a joy to use.

Rather minimal, but effective.

I think for what they charge, if they had another mode for testing, or another module or two to practice other aspects of production-focused ear-training, that this would be a much more bang-for-your-buck app. It’s certainly effective at getting you to practice hearing pitch in Hz, boosting, and EQ, but key features like panning, distortion, reverb, chorus and more are missing from this. I know there are platforms, like SoundGym, that charge more for all the music ear training variety you could want, but I think that, even for just a bit more, they could have at least a SOLID variety of content that’s not too shabby and would let me practice on key things like basic sound effects. If there’s an expansion for this app that I missed, do let me know!

A subscription? Really?

I would have loved to buy it if it was a one time purchase. Not paying monthly for this.

Very positive

I love the app and how it is designed to help mixing engineers. Definitely would recommend. Question to the developers: I would love to be able to track my progress, maybe see some basic statistics and tips for improvement. Is this something you are considering to implement in future versions?

Response from developer

Hi - Thank you so much for the kind words. We're glad to hear you're enjoying Quiztones! Score tracking is definitely the next feature we're actively discussing and will be adding to the app. After that, personalized feedback (e.g. which frequencies you've most often gotten right or wrong) is something we're looking into as well. We appreciate your support, and stay tuned for more coming soon! -Dan

Good app so far, but a suggestion?

MAKE IT COMPETITIVE! I’m telling you, you will definitely get more longevity out of it if the tests tell you how you did compared to other people. Like a leaderboard, maybe just for the most popular tests! I know the competitive side of everyone will want to better their scores, making themselves listen better in the long run, also making them use the app more! WIN WIN!

Almost there

Great interface and content. As an audio professional, I would love to see a smart quiz that learns my difficulty level to continue challenging my weak areas. Also, some kind of history or progress chart would be cool! Using this app every day so thank you!

It’s great! But having trouble restoring

Hey there! I’m having trouble restoring my purchase as I’m not unlocking any of the expert levels or other modes even after signing in and using the same email. Please help! Otherwise it’s 5 stars for me!

Response from developer

Hi Johann, thank you for using Quiztones! So sorry to hear you ran into trouble restoring a previous purchase. Could you shoot us a quick email at support@theproaudiofiles.com so we can get some further information and help you get it sorted out? Thanks, Dan

Redundant and Greedy

So phones dont have some of these tested hz ranges. So it will be impossible to decipher some, Im a mixing/mastering engineer and see a bunch of potential with this app but the pay wall is egregious and I found myself questioning if the quizzes were even accurate. My advice to learn this stuff is just do, I got excited when I saw this app but in the end it was snake oil. I do hope the developer refines this and reconsiders the pay wall. Maybe put everything the user NEEDS and then add goodies on top of it.

Hi - To get the most out of Quiztones ear training, we recommend using headphones or speakers. The base app is 100% free with 10+ beginner quizzes and has everything needed to get started. For those who want more content, features and difficulty, and to take their skills to the next level, we have Quiztones Pro. As a small team working full time on maintenance, features and content, our Pro customers directly support making this effort possible. I can assure you the quizzes are accurate as it’s programatic with testing and checks in place to ensure it — I can appreciate the irony of this comment though. You’re entitled to not like subscriptions, in this case $14.99 per year (less than 28 cents per week) for educational software that’s proven itself over 15 years. You can have that opinion, or email us feedback or questions, without trying to sandbag our reviews with false accusation. I’m sorry if this was the impression you got from Quiztones, but we’ll have to let our other reviews speak for themselves from those who spent proper time using the app and have seen great results.

Great app

I like this app a lot so far. It is not too expensive & it helps with what it is supposed to. I do think that adding more features such as gamifying the experience & being able to keep track of your progress would add a lot of value to the app. Also it would be nice if there was some type of training or description for each frequency that would help me & others identity the different characteristics of different frequencies to know exactly what to listen for

Response from developer

Hi DJAlarco - thank you for the review and glad to hear you're enjoying Quiztones! Score tracking and gamifying things a bit more is high priority for us with upcoming features, so definitely stay tuned for that. Regarding frequency descriptions, I feel a bit hesitant to add too much there only because I think what might be most effective is allowing each person to evaluate frequency changes in their own way. One tip I could share though is using Practice mode to scan through each frequency change on a sound before doing a quiz, and to mentally make note of what "characteristics" or "personalities" come to mind depending on the frequency change and source material. Thanks again! -Dan
