Why does this version cost more than the print version?

Snappy and well featured

Launches quickly on my IPhone 4S and responds well. Maybe it's my v fast wi-fi that speeds it up. Interactive features allow instant auditioning of any music available on iTunes and instant access to web sites of music providers which is a bid enhancement over the magazine. The size of the phone screen is only a small a hindrance because the interface is intuitive if you are used to Apple's way of doing things on the iPhone. I would like to be able to turn over more than one page at a time - hence the loss of a star. Works well on new iPhone SE as well.

Ropey

I installed this as prompted by the web site after getting a subscription to Gramophone. Having installed and opened it never prompted for credentials, spent five minutes showing a blank grey screen and then showed each issue of the magazine as a question mark. So it is useless.

Poor interface for good content

The app on an iPad is frustrating to use. It's a poorly designed interface for good content.

Mediocre interface

As magazine apps go this one is mediocre at best. Given the effort that many other publications have put into designing their digital versions "from the ground up", this is little more than a print version that has been turned into an interactive PDF. The only real benefit the app provides (apart from the obvious convenience of having the magazine on your iPad) are the links to albums on iTunes.

Needs overhaul

I love the magazine and am a subscriber but the app is in my view in need of an overhaul, it's very clunky and slow. I have the newest iPad Mini Retina, the app is slow and above all takes about 1 minute to launch (i.e., I click the icon, it launches, stays on a grey screen for 1 minute until you see the magazine). I have tried all kinds of things, delete and reinstall, etc., nothing helps. This is a serious deterrent for me to use it, I don't always want to have to wait that long. I hope this will be fixed soon!

No longer works

Used this app for ages but the current version does not work at all. iPad 2 with latest iOS and all bug fixes. Very disappointing. Cancelling subscription.

Gramophone app

This app does work, but is very fiddly and frustrating to use. Touch the screen and what you want appears, but almost immediately vanishes. You have to try multiple times. Ask it to sync, and it gives up partway through - again, many attempts are needed... 😞

Navigation

The app is a decent one. It allows excellent access to issues of gramophone. Two suggestions:

1. Make access to previous reviews more precise and easier to locate.

2. Allow between pages on screen instead of requiring the user to bring up the arrows at the bottom of the page.

WARNING - non-renewal loses you all issues!

Gramophone needs no introduction. It's the best classical music magazine in the world, and the digital version is first-rate. You can even search and read reviews from the entire history of the magazine.

BUT. Unlike every other magazine I've subscribed to on the iPad, if you don't renew your subscription, the issues you've downloaded to your iPad are no longer accessible! They're locked against further access, even though you paid for them! This is simply wrong. I can understand losing continued access to the review archive, but if you've paid for the issues, you should be allowed continued access to them.

This policy is not disclosed anywhere on the store. Gramophone, change your policy! Apple, does this accord with the terms of your agreement with the publisher? I'm very upset by this. To top it off, this is not a cheap subscription!
