  • Make it free

Please make it free. This app seemed good when I downloaded it but I have to pay to unlock it. Maybe add a system where you have to pay for certain options like “How You Can Celebrate” which lists things you can do on the day to celebrate. Another thing you can add is access to user created content which allows you to view custom holidays created by app users who paid. You shouldn’t make users pay just to access what the day is, maybe make them pay for special features like the ones I listed above if you need them to pay but overall PLEASE MAKE IT FREE.

  • Good but not great

Nice to see all holidays on a particular day but syncing to your calendar leaves room for lots of improvement. Some days synch the holidays while others stay blank yet the app shows the holidays that should have synched. Have tried every way to ge got to show each day on my calendar yet it always fails. And it is random which days actually do display the holidays. Needs to be fixed.

Hello! We've recently made some fixes related to calendar synchronization. Could you please update "Holiday Today" to the latest version on the App Store (4.0.10) and check if the problems still occur after you update?
  • Great but please fix bug!

Love this app and I especially enjoyed the widget on my iPhone. I even recommended this app to friends. The widget featured the daily holidays so that I could view them from my phone’s Home Screen without opening the app. I’d always forget to check the app daily so this was very convenient for me. In one of the recent updates, the widget stopped working and has been blank ever since. I even tried reinstalling the app. I’d love to see it working again!

    Developer Response

Hello! Thank you for the review. Happy celebrations! As for the widget: it should work like before, but we got some information from a lot of users that after updating to iOS 17 widget is black and does not update. Somehow it fixes itself, but we've not been able to figure out clear path for it to re-enable. If you recently updated to iOS, you might need to restart the phone and then try reinstalling Holiday Today again. Hopefully it should fix the problem eventually. Please write to us at lonelywhale@piotrpluta.pl if the issues with the widgets persist.
  • Unlisted Days

Love the app! I know a lot of people complain about how you have to pay for most of the descriptions, but quite frankly, being able to tell my friends “Happy Run it Up the Flag Pole and See if Anyone Salutes Day!” is all that matters to me. I don’t need to know what it is, just that it exists!
Anyway, I would like to request that you add a few days you missed. They are as follows:

•Nov. 23 - Slap Your Best Friend Day
•Feb. 11 - Slap Your Tall Friend Day
•Feb. 12 - Slap Your Short Friend Day
•Oct. 23 - Slap Your Irritating Coworker Day
    •Feb. 15 - Slap Day
•Oct. 21 - National Throw Short People Day
Most of these are self-explanatory, but for the ones related to height, the difference between “tall” female is considered 5’4” or over, and a “tall” male is considered 5’6” or over. Also, in order to throw somebody on National Throw Short People Day, you MUST be a considered a tall person to participate in the throwing.

  • Really good but really bad

This app is the only one I found so far that actually creates a calendar in the Calendar app versus creating events. I really like that feature a lot.

Unfortunately the shortcomings make it unusable for me.

    1) You pretty much have to purchase the app (for $3.99). Otherwise it won’t export to the Calendar app.

    2) It’s all or nothing. You can’t select a subset of holidays to export. There are 2000+ holidays, and that’s far too many for my purposes.

    3) It fails to create the Calendar in the Calendar app if you don’t have one of the Apple iCloud calendars selected as the default. My default is google calendar. What I learned is that you have to change the default calendar, create the holiday calendar, and then change the default calendar back to what it was before. The error message, while helpful, did not explain this clearly.

So all in all a wonderful app if you want to add 2000+ events to your calendar and if you use the default Apple iCloud calendar. But for me, it’s worthless.

  • Obnoxious.

This app is very great, but it would not stop asking me to buy the full version which got soooooo annoying so I did once I didn’t it would stop bugging me about writing a review so here I am hope it gets better. Besides that the app is great and I further more love it
  • Awesome for work and kids!

Love sharing my knowledge of “the day” with coworkers and family! It’s nice that they provide the history of the day on some of them as well!
  • Serves the purpose but..

Only reason I give it 4 stars is due to the fact that we can’t delete holidays we don’t care to see. Otherwise….. it serves its purpose. 👍🏼
  • App crashes upon open

Been using the app for years and it’s easy and decent. Sometimes mistakes (like Hollerin’ Contest Day, which ended in 2016).
Suddenly yesterday and today it crashes when trying to open. I restarted my phone and uninstalled and re-installed. Tried the “contact” button but it goes to a 404 page. Maybe the app is being removed?

    Developer Response

Hello! The app is not being removed in any way, in fact we've made an update yesterday. Is it working for you now after reinstall? We will be glad to help if you contact us at lonelywhale@piotrpluta.pl or use the contact button on the web page which should work now. You are of course right about Hollerin’ Contest Day. We will annotate in the event's description that it ended in 2016.
