  • Problems that still haven’t been fixed!!!

This is a good app when it works. I have suggested it to several of my friends. I have noticed a couple issues and tech support has done nothing to fix it. First, in the Club Recommendation settings, if you choose driver at 280 yards and PW at 135 yards, it will jump up to like 300+ yards for driver and 160 yards for PW. I payed for the app to get the club suggestions with slope and temperature. Of course this is not correct.

Second, the WHS does not use 10 best rounds out of 20, it only uses 8 out of 20. This will cause your handicap to be incorrect. This may sound minor or minute, but that’s why I pay for this app. Please fix the problems!!!

  • Version 14.0 broke iWatch etc.

Writing this here because the latest update broke the contact support link in the app. Additionally this update reintroduced the issue where Golfpad stays active on iWatch even after rebooting my iWatch 7 and iPhone 13 pro multiple times. Pretty frustrating until I found that if I went into the IWatch app settings on my phone and toggled the “show on watch” option to off that it finally quit. I them flipped it back on and it has not come back yet. I will be using the app again today so I’ll see if the behavior returns. At least I know how fix it relatively quickly now. Golfpad development team please fix this as soon as you can and please shore up your testing procedures.

When this app works correctly it’s right up there with the best that support Apple’s iWatch. Maybe the best. Unfortunately I’ve seen updates break things before so I can no longer give it 5 stars. Looking forward to a day when I can.

  • Great Idea - Fix The Bugs

Golf Pad is a terrific concept and I like the App overall. The Paid version is worth the money. However, I have two issues (maybe three) with Golf Pad. I use my Apple Watch to see the yardage without having to pull out my phone. Great! The bug? After the round, it won’t turn off. I went to the Forums and did everything that was mentioned, but it still appears on my Apple Watch - even though my round has been complete for over 15 hours.

The second issue are the Tags I bought and put on each club. I followed all the instructions. They just did not work for me. Great idea. Too difficult to operate.

My third issue is … I tried filing a Tech Issue by following the link in the Chat Forums. The App asked me to Log In again (fine), and then I was asked to Log In again … and again. I gave up.

I truly hope that Golf Pad addresses these first two issues. I would hate to move on.

  • New version considerably worse

In the latest version of the app (July 2022) the developers have removed the group round feature and replaced it with live leaderboards.

Despite the claims made in the version notes, this was a terrible decision. In the previous version (group rounds) you could see your mates hole-by-hole score in the app during the round. Now, I can’t figure out how to do that at all. It seems you can do it at the end of the round with about 5 convoluted steps and navigating out of the app to an in-app launched webpage.

I still find the app pretty good for individual play at shot tracking, but this significant backwards step suggests to me that the developers have lost the plot. My recommendation is to look elsewhere if group play is your preferred mode.

  • Apple Watch issues

When you track your first shot after arriving to your ball from the tee, the distance doesn’t appear after you track your shot. It works on your second shot and on.

Only way to see how far you hit it from the tee is to open the map in the app and drag your finger back to the tee block and see how far you are.

Or subtract the start distance to current

  • Good app, creator uses it

Was randomly paired with a guy named Konstantin for a recent round at Chamber Bay. He was tapping end of his club to his pocket during round. Intrigued, my son and I asked what he was doing. Turns out he created the GolfPad app and was using it. He gave us comp codes for a free year. Took about two rounds to become a seamless experience (like I’m gonna read directions lol). Works great with the Apple Watch—between shots I get distance for previous shot and distance to front, middle and back. It’ll recommend “soft 8i” for next shot based on distance to green and how far I hit my clubs (based on real data). After the round, I get google maps overview of the hole with my shot paths shown (with distances and club selection) plus tons of stats. It makes me want to play more rounds to build up the averages. Love it.

  • You extra “club” in your bag

This app is essential to developing a good golf game. My brother in law has an expensive range finder that I like to compare with the app stats on distance etc. The app matches perfectly. Bonus. It recommends a club, gives wind speed and you can match up landmarks with a flight plan. This is a no brainer. Hope they keep developing the app, adding more courses and features. Its great.

  • Best of several apps I have course-tested.

I tried 3 other apps and found Golf Pad worked best with my Apple Watch and also was the least expensive - win-win. The app is intuitive, easy to make adjustments/corrections while playing and provides a great summary view that lets me go through the stats and tracked shots after the round. As an added bonus, I have found their support team to be AMAZING. Even before I was a premium customer paying for the app, they were super-responsive - helped me get a course I planned to play while traveling loaded in less than a day. I emailed them in the afternoon and had an email the next day that it was loaded and I played it that afternoon. They also helped me get a trial of the premium features and have also provided fast responses to a couple questions along the way. Looking forward to becoming proficient with all the features as I play more with it. Only downsides I see are things that are already being worked on - GHIN uploads being most significant I think. Overall I highly recommend giving Golf Pad a try if you’re looking for a gps app.

  • A Simple App They updated to Extremes

I started using this free app when it first came out and loved its simplicity. Since then endless updates have added endless complexity. If you don’t use it year round, be prepared for it do things differently when you play your first Spring round.

This year has been more frustrating as a local course I play has all the wrong distances. I would like to notify Golf Pad, but that seems impossible. I am a golfer not a software programmer and not interested in attempting to make all the course corrections. After 5 or more years I guess it’s time for a new golf
    App.
