  • Please update this app

I use this app every day on my iPad. Lately I have been seeing this message; "this app will make your iPad run slowly, please notify the developer for a update" otherwise this app is valuable for my school studies
  • Incredible app!

I got this app thinking that it would only include a few definitions of words and example sentences, but what I got was much more than expected! You can find synonyms and antonyms for words, as well as there being a translator for different languages in the main menu. Overall, great app! I would definitely recommend it to English lovers, or people who wish to expand their vocabulary.

  • Solid program!

It provides more background information about words that the app produced by Webster. Unfortunately, I'm a product of the 80s, and am still not ready to embrace such crowd-sourced references. I still find myself cross referencing key terms with alternate sources. Dictionary dot com's integrity seems solid. Question: who checks & corrects oversights?

  • Very useful

Word of the day is handy for a writer like me... Haven't really delved into other functionality like thesaurus ...etc... But it would be nice to easily copy / paste the data from the app, because when you click on a word it takes you to that word....

That has its own usefulness though...
  • A handy tool for writing

One of the ways I revise my creative writing pieces is to look up words and their synonyms to see which ones fit the structure and style of my poems. When I saw this app, I thought it would do the trick. And I've not been disappointed.
This is my favourite tool for revision. I have bought the full, ads-free version and I would recommend it to all writers (and learners) of English!

  • The Dictionary Has Never Been Such Fun

You can simply look up definitions and spellings if you want. But you can also enjoy the word of the day, stories about the origins of words, learn about the definitions of the signs of the zodiac or scary monsters of film and literature. This is a wonderful app and this version can be used in landscape mode for the iPad, which is great for me, as I use it while I'm working.

  • Almost perfect.

This app represent such great value you will never regret buying it so do yourself a favour and get it now. My only complaint is that there is no dark theme option and the built in negative colour tool that appears in the accessibility section of the iPad settings is of limited use as it makes everything negative including pictures and is a bit of a pain to activate and deactivate, especially if you have already assigned a function to the triple click available for the Accessibility tools. A permanent dark theme would solve this problem and be kinder to tired eyes.

  • Wouldn't be without it.

Enjoy having such a great source of correct spelling and meaning at my finger tips. Unlike the hard cover dictionary that used to go walkabout, I know exactly where my online one is, at all times. Always very reliable.
  • 'Online only' complaints

I have only just downloaded this based on many useful reviews, but I don't understand why the complaint about the amount of data that's only available online. I read it as being the dictionary/thesaurus lookup that's available offline. If this turns out not to be true, I'll be seriously p*****d off, but do you want your tablet memory filled with translations, examples, and all the other things you expect to be available online? Bearing in mind the sheer quantity of data you would view once or not at all. And come on...a wired internet connection only is a pretty rare setup hit someone using a tablet at home.

Get some perspective and enough with the spurious reviews. In that spirit, this review will be replaced by something more relevant to my experience of the app. For now, I give a neutral 4* until I have tried the paid content - the free content was excellent and the developer deserves financial remuneration.

  • Dictionary ad free

Love this app, it's a go-to for definitions, love word of the day, and comparisons of similar words and word origins. I keep learning something every time I open it.
Well done to the developers, the extras like word of the day, the slideshows of language clusters, word origins, and the paid extras are all worth every cent
