  • Absolutely Terrible

This is without a doubt the worst application I have ever encountered. VoiceThread is currently so broken that every time I need to use it I have to delete and reinstall the app because every time I leave the app it irreversibly breaks itself.

Ignoring that the app is currently extremely broken, even when it does work as intended, the experience is still horrendous. This “app” is literally just a web view that implements whatever idiotic audio protocol they are using because the developers are too incompetent to make the website cross platform.

    Again: Worst. App. Ever.

Update: Unfortunately I can’t avoid using this app, and in the time since I wrote this review I have literally reinstalled this app more than two dozen times due to the issues I described above.

Update 2: They somehow managed to make it even worse in the last update, the app doesn’t work at all now... just provides an endless login loop, even after reinstalling.

An app has never made me want to
Pull my hair out more than this app. Every time I go to post for my classes on here the app crashes or it won’t post it and I’m loosing participation marks because of it. This app doesn't work
  • horrible

    doesn’t even work
  • A mess

The VT app is actually trash to use. My main device I use for school work is my iPad, and VT does not allow you to access them through web browser so I am forced to use the app. This wouldn’t be an issue if the application did not crash all the time. As soon as the presentation exceeds a certain size, it crashes. I do not understand how there is not better support of the app especially when most schooling is online and teachers are using VT to deliver asynchronous lectures. Since clearly there is not enough resources being diverted here, I can only hope that with enough one-star reviews that it’ll be taken off the app store and then maybe they’ll do something about this.

  • Absolutely impossible to use.

When my professor announced we were going to be using voice thread, I was thrilled. I’d already used it and was familiar with the interface. When I re-downloaded the app, it was made clear to me that it had been updated for the worse. Now, it takes over half an hour to upload a 2 minute video, IF it actually uploads. I try to keep school work off of my phone, and only on my iPad, but I have to have this awful app on two different devices because of how unreliable it is. Videos never upload on the first try, they take forever to process, and even then, it’s not a guarantee that it will work once you try and share it to your class. Not to mention the interface is very confusing and difficult to use. Things need to be fixed, or else the rest of my school year is bound to be as terrible as this app.

  • I have never written a review before

But I have to for this app, which is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. Have you ever signed into an app, logged in, and immediately been brought to a screen telling you to use the app instead WHILE USING THE APP? Other issues: constant crashing for doing high-intensity tasks such as “rewinding” or “pausing”. The app has NO memory, so should you close the app to check mail for 5 seconds, it will have forgotten not only where in the VoiceThread you last were, but the whole presentation itself. Not only that, but there’s no way to easily track or search your most recently viewed threads. I imagine VoiceThread was unprepared for the onslaught of usage due brought about by COVID, but come on, it’s been 6 months! Your team can do better.

  • So Incredibly Frustrating

I am required to use this app for class in order to encourage speaking practice during the pandemic. The app never keeps me signed into my institution and I always have to go some type of convoluted route to access the presentations I need to view for the week. Uploading my comments to a slide can take forever and I generally find the app nearly unusable. Furthermore, I cannot upload my own files to create an original VoiceThread. Instead of opening my iCloud Drive, the app takes me to my photos despite me not having clicked on “upload a photo.” I have tried to access the web version, but I cannot on my tablet (which is my primary computer).

  • Garbage, garbage, garbage.

Why is it that education apps are always garbage?

This app does not support Bluetooth headphones of any kind, which means I have to play the audio from my Voicethread assignments over my iPad speakers. Extremely convenient in the middle of a crowded house, Starbucks, or at the school library.

How, in 2020, does an iPad application on an iPad Pro not allow the use of headphone support for Bluetooth headphones? (Specifically Airpods) What kind of cockamamie idiocy is this? Are you guys serious? At what New Jersey bus station did you find your developers, and did someone actually interview them, or did you just roll the dice and hope for the best?

This app is terrible. It’s a shame that an education app that is widely used by college professors would be such a piece of crap, because I bet if all the bugs were worked out, this could actually become a useful app. Instead, you guys created an app that has all the utility of slamming your hand in a car door, without any of the excitement.

Great concept, but the audio doesn’t seem to work. I can’t hear any of my lectures. Please fix this!
