  • Great game and now stable!

    *UPDATED AGAIN*

FFG has done a great job updating the app and adding new content. I have been very impressed by their efforts. Can't go wrong with free content updates! Love the new free as well as the new in app purchase campaigns. They really add some new dimensions to what was already a fun game.

I would love for a retina update for the new iPad, to support the enhanced graphics, though that certainly won't stop me from enjoying the game immensely.

Certainly hope that this App is only an Omen of good things to come!

    *UPDATED*

I went ahead and deleted everything I said about the game crashing, FFG did a great job updating the game very quickly and seem to have added a lot of stability. I have had no crashes since the update and am very very happy with the quick fixes.

This game is definitely 5 stars and worth the price. They did an excellent job porting this board game title to the iPad.

Like I said in my first review, if the game were fixed it would deserve 5 stars, and it delivers. The audio/visual experience is well thought out and very good looking. An excellent job was done stream lining some of the game elements for the iOS devices.

I only hope that the good customer reaction inspires FFG to port more of their titles to the iOS devices, because I will certainly continue to follow them!

  • Yeah Baby!

Love this game but started to lose interest. Can't wait to try expansions. Truely awesome game that's challenging and has great artwork
  • This game is broken on iPad 2

I love Fantasy Flight, but they are prone to doing some sloppy work, especially when it comes to their rule books. However in this case the problem is that the app randomly quits out all the time.

Also, I don't know if they were trying to re-create the atmosphere and sense of doom from Arkham Horror that is brought about by the difficulty of the board game. However I feel in this app they have gone a little to far, I like a challenge in a game but this is just stupid and seems more like bad coding used to random the symbols, more often than not they don't even change at all.

If you a fan of Arkham Horror or Mansions of Madness, then checkthis out, but don't ever expect to win lol

  • Incredibly Well Done

Never played the board game, but love board games on iPad so I picked this up. Really been a pleasant surprise, this game has been polished to perfection. Warning: the game itself is very challenging, you will not win your first game (or maybe even a few after hehe.) But it is fair and it can be won once you understand the rules and gameplay better. Very high quality graphics, music, and never had a crash. Multiplayer would be a good addition, as well as a purchasable expansion.

Bottom line though is if you are on the fences and don't mind a good challenge, give this game a shot. It's definitely worth it.

  • Outstanding

This game is great, the presentation from the very moment you launch it is very professional as you would expect from an establish board game company such as Fantasy Flight Games. They have made some small changes from the Elder Sign board game and this does not hurt this version, though personally I would like them to consider an bringing an expansion where the missing elements are brought back into the game such as the other ancient ones to battle. That would be an instant purchase for me. The game has both tutorial videos and a rule guide to help you find your way and even if you have not played this style of game before you will soon be up and running.

You can play 1-4 player in this and as a single player the best experience is selecting a team of four Investigators and playing each in turn. The game is balanced enough to provide some very tense finishes and you never feel cheated if you fall short of success. Likewise when you win you do feel a sense of achievement. The artwork is outstanding and the background music helps add to the atmosphere.

Easy game to recommend and hard to put down I look forward to Fantasy Flight Games next venture onto IOS with anticipation.

  • Great Strategy Game

I really love this game. I have not run into any of the problems with the application that you read in the other reviews. I have played it about 30 times so far and have not run into any lockups or crashing of hte application. What I like best about this game is that there is a strategy aspect and a randomness aspect to it. Even after you have figured out some of the tricks to making it easier to beat the game, there is no guarantee that those tricks will work each time. The randomness aspect to it keeps things up in the air and non-deterministic. While you have strategic decisions to make about using the best investigator with the right equipment for the particular events you are going to try to handle, and decisions as to whether the negative affects of failing an event are outweighed by the bonuses, as well as whether you should try to beef up your equipment before handling an event, or getting rid of midnight effects prior to midnight coming, there is also that randomness that makes it possible that all of your strategic planning may get screwed up and you have to adapt. Again, I love this game and highly recommend it to anyone who is into strategic board games. This one ranks up there with Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, and Ticket to Ride for me.

  • Great artwork

    Challenging and unique.
  • Almost 5 stars

The game has an excellent atmosphere!

The gameplay is not so deep, but I am completely satisfied with my purchase. It's like having an Arkham Horror lite in your pocket (or…bag).

My two issues (hence not a 5 star review) are:

    - The game crashes when all investigators go insane. If I quit the app and resume the game, then then game continues on the previous round (which is strange, because I could alter my progress) but it crashes again before going to the next round.

    - I cannot skip the intermediate short clips: presenting the next player, when the night effects are being applied, or when a new monster appears. At least they should be really easily skip-able by just tapping the screen.

And a small feature request: Game Center. I would definitely want to keep track of my score against my friends and in the future to also play with them via the internet!!!

Except those issues, it is a game which will definitely keep some of my nights busy - taken in mind that I cannot find company for Arkham Horror… :(

I can't wait for more releases of FF like this! keep up!

  • Latest update causes new crashes

I absolutely love this app, though it can be frustrating, especially when both the yellow and red dice are locked at the very beginning of the game and two or more locations have midnight effects.

I like what the latest update is supposed to bring, but I've experienced a few crashes since installing it. It crashed when I tapped to bypass an investigator load screen. When I restarted the app, it gave me the option to resume the game. However, it also crashed when all my investigators went insane. When I restarted the app, I wasn't given the option to resume this time. I didn't get a score or end game breakdown.

  • Flawed, but better on the iPad

I scored this lower on the Mac, but the intimate natureof the iPad makes the lack of multiplayer much less glaring and the touch interface works much better than the mouse interface on the desktop. Also, videos and tutorials being broken by multitasking is less an issue.

That said, this game has the same basic gameplay issue that it has on other platforms: sheer randomness. While there are places you can apple some strategy, randomness determines the outcome y fat more than any other factor. In face, the gameplay could best be likened to a slot machine: pull the lever and find out if you won. Still, the beautiful presentation is worth something. If you simply must have this game, the iPad port is probably the best method.
