  • Tricky game

This is a fun little game however fantasy flight games tend towards a longer duration than some might be used to, and a point of difference to other games on the iPhone/iPad is that your characters will die easily. My advice is to take it easy at first and play a single character like Joe diamond and then branch out into the other characters. the supplied help file is not as clear as it should be, remember to browse the rooms before entering to get the elder signs you need. Killing monsters is a bit easier than beating a whole room. Good luck!

  • Disappointing

As a board game this is great - as an app it is appallingly unbalanced. Luck is the only factor here when it comes to winning this game.

Don't waste your money on this like I did.

Play 2 times. Can't finish because crash and freeze. Now the game is stuck. Restarting my ipad2 does not fix the problem. Please update to fix. Otherwise I like the game so far.
  • Great, but why so hard

I love the game, and a Call of Cthulhu game was missing from the app store until now. graphics are really good, perhaps a bit more animation could be used. gameplay is simple and easy to follow, but the randomness of the action phase I'm finding practically impossible to succeed. I think I've completed only one task in any game, before going insane or dying.

I realise its is hard to thwart the mythos, but shouldn't be impossible.

But a great first effort. Multiplayer would be good upgrade.

  • Five Stars Despite a Couple Shortcomings

I'm a big fan of the boardgame, so I was pretty excited at the news of an iPad version being released. As far as gameplay goes this version does not disappoint. The rules have been tweaked a little, but they certainly do not take away any of the enjoyment of the boardgame. The interface is very intuitive and beautiful. It's a real treat to be able to see the artwork in detail as opposed to the fairly small images featured in the boardgame. I daresay the iPad version is a bit more atmospheric because of this. The music also helps in this regard.

On to the negatives. This app is in severe need of better explanation of the rules. Coming from the boardgame, it was fairly simple for me to figure out how to play the digital version, but I can see how someone new to the game would be very frustrated. Even a link to rules at the FFG site would be a great addition. Secondly, I'd like to see more GOO's (bosses). There's definitely enough here to keep me busy for a while, but please FFG, let's see some added content.

    An all around great job!

  • Excellent! And spooky too.

Firstly, I own the Elder Signs board game, and this has helped immensely as a learning aid for playing that. Secondly, this is really an excellent game. Produced to a high standard and very fun to play. Its a challenge to win certainly. But then, so are all of FFG's co-op board games.

Doesn't need multiplayer in my opinion, but GameCentre enabled leaderboards are a must! Please FFG, add those GC leaderboards. Throw in a few achievements as well eh?

  • Brilliant!!!

Excellent, just like playing arkham horro but with no fuss, very polished, and its not easy to beat.
Would love to see expansions for this and maybe tannhauser?
Thanks ffg great port to the electronic media.
Oh im glad it hasnt got mp, it would take too long for a turn, with wifi connections etc, you can of course just pass around your mates if you want.

  • Constant crashing on original iPad.

I seriously doubt that this game was tested on the original iPad. Of the five games I've actually finished, the average crashes per game is 8. I've rebooted, cleaned the memory so that I had a maximum of over 100mb free on the iPad, and still nothing will keep this game from constantly crashing.

It's a shame that more time was spent developing the app, since the game itself is really, really good. Though right now, trying to run the app is turning out to be insanely more challenging then the game itself. More quality control is definitely needed.

I own many boardgames from Fantasy Flight, and just hope that they can put as much quality into their future apps as they do with their boardgames.

  • Should have been iPhone/iPad universal

The gameplay screens are IDENTICAL in every way except for the higher resolution graphics. I have been playing the iPhone version on my iPad this week and can attest to the fact. There has been no change to any of the graphics, including the death or insanity animations.

The cut scenes are also IDENTICAL to the iPhone and iPad versions. These appear to have been mastered in one resolution to run on both devices.

So what do you get for your extra dollars? A VERY attractive version of the game running in an appropriate resolution for the larger iPad screen. That's it. There are no other benefits to be had from buying both versions.

Scores are not centralized through Apple's game centre so you end up with different score sets on both devices.

It would have been more considerate for FFG to release both iPhone and iPad versions on the same day so that prospective customers could pick a preferred version at the time. Spreading the two releases over the week encouraged fans of the game into buying one version, then the other.

Bear in mind too, that Australian customers were gouged an extra 50cents per app. When our dollar is near, or slightly over parity with the greenback, this just adds insult to injury.

All this has done for me is to make me very wary of future software releases from FFG. I will more likely not be an early adopter, in order to avoid unnecessary expense.

Just for the record, I own the physical copy of the game too, and I paid full Australian retail for it. It is an excellent product, like most of FFGs catalogue of games.
