Hi Meg. You can get the Snapplify Reader Mac version from www.getsnapplify.com This is specifically designed for Mac users. The App Store version is for iPhone and iPad users specifically. You should not experience the issues you have mentioned with the Mac version but feel free to contact us on support@snapplify.com should you need anything further.
