Make it easier to navigate

Need to make it more user friendly and easier to navigate throughout the app and to make it more accessible to plan trips and to create way point

Excellent app

Amazing app well worth the money. Stable and very intuitive complements paper Hema maps very well.

4wd Maps

Absolutely awful compared to the old Hema Explorer. Just about unusable, so disappointed. One star because it wouldn’t accept no stars.

Paper maps with gps

I find the Hema maps app great. I’ve used it from the VIC High Country to Cape York. I can sit at home and look at areas I want to visit, zoom in and out and follow tracks without having to find the next page the map joins up to. I plan routes and save as gpx files and when I’m out and about I can see exactly where I am on the map with GPS accuracy. I can save my favourite camps or points of interest and send them to friends. Yes the app is a bit clunky and takes awhile to learn, but so are paper maps.

Review

HEMA Maps offer solid and reliable mapping, especially for regional and outback travel. The detail is generally good, though coverage could be expanded in some areas. A handy resource overall, but still worth cross-checking with other sources at times.

CarPlay?

The app would be excellent with CarPlay. Especially now that there is wireless CarPlay your navigator/partner could be programming while you are driving

NOT MY PICK

This was my original app that I used as a 4x4 I found if difficult clunky impossible to understand unintuitive and frustrating I have tried a lot since.

THEY GET A ONE STAR FOR THE ONLY DECENT THING IT DOES AND THAT IS A ONE OFF PRICE ENJOY

Blessed are the map makers

Hema have always strived to make their maps excellent for both 4WD and road trips. Let us hope they stay in business and google don’t devour them

Great

It’s a great app we use it all the time for our trips. It would be great to see it available for apple/android car play.

Zero stars for this app.

This used to be a very good 4wd mapping app before their mapping system was corrupted and taken over by memory maps!
Now the Hemma mapping app is rubbish - just electronic copies of paper topo maps that don’t show any detail at zoom and no clear signage. You pay top dollar for the “new” version of Hemma mapping app and the maps that they supply and the ones you can download are useless, particularly if you plan on any four wheel driving or adventuring.
Not even sure you can use an external gps connected to your iPad to show your exact location.
Memory maps that are supplied are also useless.
A complete waste of money

Getting lost

It was once a great app then they start putting in aboriginal names that not only you can’t pronounce but you end up getting totally lost, this is Australia so let’s stick to Australian names would be good.
If Hema feels the need create a mapping system for Aboriginal people,

Map update

It looks like the maps on this app have not been updated since 2022. When will Hema be providing an update?

Great app! Beats paper maps

Terrible, just terrible

Route planning is the most frustrating experience. If it was still 1999 it would be great, then maybe 3 stars

Good analogue style map!

Great map for the outback. It would be great to remove the warning that I can’t get data when navigating by satellite. I can’t click on my phone while riding a motorbike and have to stop to get rid of that unnecessary warning…

Gives confidence to go beyond the black stump

This app allowed us to confidently travel to locations far and remote. It provides clear (as clear can be) directions on remote roads and tracks. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere beyond mobile phone coverage without it.

Best off road maps

Hema maps is the best off road maps. If you’re out in remote Australia and don’t have service, Hema maps is still available. We were able to take some very remote off the beaten tracks to waterfalls and camp spots that most people would never get to see. I recommend Hema maps to anyone who wants reliable mapping 24/7.

Support and Customer Service

Absolutely a rubbish company to deal with. If you swap platforms ie, apple to google or Samsung they won’t support your $100 purchase and transfer, expecting you to pay again. Just shows the greed and inability to support their clients who have made them a success.

Difficult to navigate

Great that it has missing road details that other maps don’t have but trying to find a legend or what maps you buy or download is rather frustrating

Planning

I would like to plan trips following explorers tracks so I need to add a distance and heading from each point.
That is not so easy now
