Description of Hands

Hands-On Math Number Balance provides an interactive learning environment for learning and enhancing addition and multiplication skills, and problem solving abilities. It is a perfect classroom tool for core mathematics instruction and enrichment. While using this app students will use mathematical thinking skills to solve randomly generated problems. Students will find the challenges solvable through interaction with the Number Balance. The skills learned are relevant to the elementary mathematics curriculum. Encourage your students to try our Number Balance, and as they do you will see them get better at many basic math skills. Number Balance offers 8 levels of difficulty. Younger learners will benefit from the settings where the challenge is to find a sum or product by balancing the scale. For older students teachers may want to use some of the options where the challenge is to find a missing addend, add a set of 3 or 4 numbers or find products. A comprehensive instructor's guide is provided and can be installed in iBooks. The guide gives lesson ideas and suggests activities for classroom teachers. • Nice Tool

I really like the levels of questions that come with this app. I would like to see another level. I teach middle school and we have to cover mean as a balance point. I would love to have a way of changing the numbers on the balance so that it balances on a number other than zero. For example, setting the balance point to 3 so that weights on 1 and 5 would make it balance evenly.

    Developer Response

Thank you for the suggestion. If we can find a way to illustrate this concept within the available screen size we will try to implement it.
  • Disappointed

I was excited to share this with my students. The number balance is one of my favorite math tools. But the app isn't working for me. It won't go past level one. Every, other level does not load properly and then quits as soon as the screen is tapped. I deleted and reinstalled the app to no avail. Any suggestions? I'd really like to be able to use this.

    Developer Response

An update to version 2.1 should fix any problems.
