A Fun and Funny Witch
(This is an updated review) I'd previously reviewed "Meet Heckerty" and given it a lower star rating owing to some technical problems and what seemed to be a lack of tech support. I've since been contacted by the developers who very nicely explained the miscommunication and have a fix for my problem (repeated crashes) on the way.
So I'm now happy to give "Meet Heckerty" 4 stars, because the story of a witch whose face turns green is fun, the illustrations and animations are very nice, and the narration (by Heckerty herself) is a treat: the voice of a real storyteller. Note that because the illustrations have fine detail and are somewhat small on the page, "Meet Heckerty" is going to be a more satisfying experience on an iPad than an iPhone-sized screen...though the images are pleasing even at the smaller size. Also, be sure to read the "Hints and Tips" before jumping into the story in order to enjoy various features like hearing individual words pronounced when you tap them.Show lessBloomboy
We are in love!
It is official, we have gone green and are in love with this adorable witch. My son wants to go on more adventures and said "she's helping me to read because the words pop on the screen when she talks, cool!" Heckerty is delightful. We loved her adventure and would love to go further on her journey with her. Illustrations are adorable and the voice so sweet and funny. Heckerty will no doubt entertain the young and the old, but young at heart, audience!ChrisLillieVT

Love the synchronization of voice and text reveal! Most books present distractions from the focus on the written word. This story has minimal distractions and fabulous spacing so that each word is revealed as spoken. Great for struggling or new reader.Allthegoodnicknames
Cute, but too short
Really cute book, my daughter really likes it. But it's shorter than I would have hoped. Also, the URL for the coloring pages links to a non-existent page.Chris Bartley
What a wonderful ides
Heckerty is a brilliant way for young children to learn how to read. I think it would also be a fantastic tool for kids learning English as a second language. I work a lot in China and think this product would be a dream for Chinese kids learning to read English. And it's not a dry educational tool -- it's funny, engaging and colorful.Show lessRichardphx

Full of promise...
As both a new parent and preschool teacher, I eagerly purchased this app based on its excellent rating and reviews. The presentation is very good, which stands in contrast with the somewhat dull story. I found myself at the end of the book, still waiting for the story to really begin. Adorable story!
My 3 year old son is a bit scared of witches but on a friends recommendation I bought this app for him. I was dreading that at the sign of the first green face he'll shreak and run away... But nothing of that sort happened! Instead, he listened to the entire story with a smile on his face! Only towards the end when the witch flies away did he get a tad bit scared but overall I think this story is going to become a permanent fixture at bedtime in our family!Show lessHimanshu Madhani
Enchanting! Fun for little and big kids of all ages.
I bought this app for my kids on the recommendation of a good friend. They're 5 year old twin boys, and were totally enchanted by the story. There are clickable animations on each page, and all of the words are clickable. They click away and make silly combinations with the words, and echoes, and stuff like that.
I'd highly recommend it for kids of any age, and to be honest - I found myself clicking around the app quite a bit myself, and I'm 44!Show lessinteractivenyc
