Pretty seriously lacking
The app does what I need it to do for the most part, but one of the most frustrating things is the inability to jump forward or backward by 10 second increments, which is especially frustrating on the Apple TV version of the app. This seems like it would be an easy fix, so why hasn’t it been fixed?
Update a couple of years later:
MAN I wish Synology would bring this app into the modern era. Years later we STILL don’t have a 10/30 second skip forward/skip backward function. Not to mention the lack of Autoplay Next Episode (works on Apple TV but not on other IOS devices). It’s just so behind the times. I’m not expecting Netflix, Prime, or Paramount+ levels of refinement and functionality here, but I’d at least like to see some basics added into the app. Need to remove one of my original three stars from the rating. Synology has removed Videostation from DSM making this app worthless!
I’ve thought the library management/organization system has been poor for a while but it is pathetic that the app will not play (does not even try) videos over an encrypted connection. I am running on latest iPad Air (2024) so it is not a hardware issue. I’m also on the same network so it is not an Internet connection speed issue. As for the library, the app doesn’t even show all of the content that is in a directory or that is shown in the video station app when working on PC.Show lessChiTownDave
Sloppy Library Management System and will not play video thorough encrypted connection

I like this player because it is simple, lightweight, and works well with my Diskstation video library. It also provides an easy way to download videos so I can view on an airplane. However, downloaded videos does not show the nice poster/tile view as folders on my DS server. Developers: please show nice poster view for downloaded videos.Show lessAllegrettoNC
Can’t adjust playback speed???!!!
Strange enough that playback speed adjustment is available via web browser access to Video Station but NOT this APP!!!ostin0202
App looks like abandonware: Apple TV app has bug with handling subtitles
Synology haven’t updated this app in a year. Video Station and its clients are starting to look like abandonware with multiple bugs and other issues remaining unfixed. Might be time to look elsewhere than Synology for a media server.
Apple TV app has bug with handling subtitles. It always plays subtitles. Moreover, the option to enable subtitles adds a second layer of subtitle. Switching subtitles off, still leaves it displaying subtitles. Please fix.Show lessorangesurfer
Inconsistent
How is it that my file can play on video station from the web browser but this application is unable to play.Loc'Wolf
Horrible
I transferred several movies in mkv to video folder on synology nas and ds video will not show them. Open vlc and browse to folders on synology and can see mkv and play them.EGC128
Cannot play video
Cannot play video using this app, while DS file can play the same video normallyiMengmeng1314
Broken on tvOS 17
For the most part, this app does the job. But, on tvOS 17 there’s an issue.
Sometimes, pausing videos is broken. When a video is paused, it cannot be played again without coming complete out of the video, and restarting it again.
On top of this, the app NEEDS to be updated for the new remote. Especially, the function of being able to rest on the dial, and slowly scrub videos.
Please work on this app asap. It’s frustrating when watching things daily.Show lessRussDCA
