Traaaaash UX

I have used a lot of professional photo and video editing software and this is one of the worst UX designs I’ve ever encountered. It’s like IKEA made a video app. They’re trying to mimic Apple’s native media tools but missing the mark. They give you a minimal number of nondescript icons (as in no text) to navigate and it forces some bogus AI algorithm in your face to try and auto clip your media; this should be optional and out of the way. I’m struggling just to organize videos and clips into an album. That’s insane. I was in a dialogue loop for 5 minutes trying to remove a video from an album before I gave up and deleted the whole thing. Something so basic being so frustrating and the fact they expect users to pay for “premium features” that feel like garbage and should be included in basic app functionality results in a one star review, sorry. You’re better off using a third party app to edit and organize your videos. The only thing I appreciate as a premium feature is the auto upload, so if you lose or break your camera you at least have a backup of your media; but there are better alternatives for this as well. The paywall for the extra app features is not at all worthwhile, so buyer beware.

Overhyped & under performing but okay, I guess

The Influencers will have you believe this is the best thing since sliced cheese but it comes with flaws. For starters the Auto Trim is a lottery pick’n’mix and rarely captures anything of true value - if there was the option I’d have it off permanently. The upload, update thing takes an age and more often than not crashes inexplicably leading one to wonder if it’s the device, the Wi-Fi, the file, anything but the app which quietly disappears and leaves no clues. After several months of ownership and many edits later, I’ve accrued quite a few finished pieces only to have them denied access to the outside world (aka Insta or WhatsApp). Still, it’s got most of the basic bases covered like the auto uploads, editing tools and general bits to create a flick. Just please Quik tell us when we’ve (you’ve) f*caked up!

GoPro Hero 13

Quick app is appalling to be polite! App is glitchy as hell! App struggles to connect to phone, struggles to connect to wireless network, randomly drops out of both Bluetooth & wireless connections. Randomly doesn’t sync all media with app so you have to manually confirm each transfer. Saves all media onto phone which you have to delete from app (phone) which uses a tonne of space on your phone! Sporadically uploads to cloud, other times near impossible to achieve “auto upload”! Highlight videos seem to focus on one particular aspect of the days shoot & creates a short (1.5 minute) video of a very small portion of the day’s activities.
Very unhappy with the GoPro Quick app especially since it is a subscription!
If I could give this app less than 1 star I would!
I purchased the new Hero13 & subscription to Quick for our overseas holiday based on the fact that it “auto uploads” to the cloud & makes it’s own short video for each days shoot so we could share with friends & family back home. I spent in excess of $1,000AUD on the GoPro setup. At this point, my advice to anyone looking to do the same? Just use your IPhone!!

So far so good!

I am just getting into being a content creator, so I went with the GoPro hero 12 black creator edition as my first first action camera to start making content. so far so good and I also like how sometimes GoPro will throw together a video for you. They usually hit and miss without editing. but I am just learning to edit and all of that with my content. I will say that is the most challenging thing learning how to make what you say be heard at a certain time and then the music starts back up. I have a lot to learn because I just got this GoPro about two weeks ago. I’ve always been into photography and loved landscape pictures. But I love fishing even more and I have a couple of Content creators that I watch fish. So I figured I would give it a try at least. I believe in myself, but at the very least, I will have a bunch of memories documented with my kids and friends fishing no matter what. I’m good with that.!

Just to say they have one

I’ve tried, trust me I’ve tried, if you’re taking 30s vids that you want a couple edits on then this is the app for you… If you want anything else? Don’t waste the space on your phone with this app, genuinely could book a flight to where they host their servers and use a flash drive to retrieve my videos QUIKer… or at all… seriously, roll the dice and start a ritual because the odds of you getting your edit when you try to download it in my experience are nothing short of lottery odds… might buy a scratch off today because after 12 separate attempts and 3 phone reboots I’m still having no luck I’m on an iPhone 15 pro max by the way, absolutely no hardware excuse as to why a 267mb 1080p video should overheat my phone, drain 20% battery and take 22 minutes just to fail a download at 80% Will be attempting a refund on the subscription I bought to the cloud features as I’m unable to make any use of them, please take this as a precautionary tale and use any other app than this for your videos, all the time they spent in cool features is made obsolete by never getting to download your end vid, legit have had to screen record some to get my edits…

Upgrade one thing

Its a really great app but will be better off if we can close the app and videos gets downloaded in the background while we can do something else on the phone.

Do not buy a Premium Subscription

Do not buy a Premium Subscription -

Auto-upload feature does not work unless very specific wifi criteria are met

If travelling and using hotel or other wifis that require a password be entered via a browser page (very common with most hotels), this Premium Subscription feature will not work.

If travelling and using hotel or other wifis you will need to have very very strong signal as this Premium Subscription feature will not work. Generally such public wifi services will never be strong enough for the GoPro even if your phone, tablet or pc has no issue.

As a result of the Auto-upload feature not working the Automatic Highlights Videos, a nice feature of the Premium Subscription, will also not work.

And if you want to edit your GoPro videos on the Quik Desktop Editing app, another advertised feature of the Premium Subscription, forget about it as the app does not exist. This one is just blatant false and misleading advertising.

And if you want to try and contact GoPro Customer Service, good luck. Despite over 30 attempts over 3 weeks, they are impossible to reach and seems that they probably don’t even exist.

GoPro cameras are a good product. Their Premium Subscription product is not.

Miss

The app privacy policy is bad enough, making me more comfortable just taking the SD card out and transferring files manually, but I pretty much have to do that anyway because it’s constantly saying there isn’t enough room on my iPhone to transfer videos to my photos app, even though I have hundreds of gigabytes free according to system storage in settings. Sometimes restarting my phone fixes it but honestly their app harasses me so much to subscribe to their monthly cloud storage while I’m just trying to use the app for the few hundred dollar camera I already bought from them that it’s just not worth it. On top of that I pretty much have to use my GoPro plugged in with the battery out if I want to be able to record for any reasonable length of time without it overheating and then turning off, missing footage. I really can’t recommend their app, but kinda not their products in general. It’s fine, it’s nice to use when it works, and I make it work now that I’m used to it’s finicky behaviours, but if I could go back in time I’d buy something else. At the very least don’t ask me more than once to subscribe with popups every time I’m just trying to download my footage, let alone almost every time I open the app for any reason.

The app is awful and here is why:

In all seriousness the app is awful.

- It is far too over complicated:

It is not the job of the user to fathom the app and its limitations. It is the job of the developer to make it easy and intuitive.

- App layout and navigation:

Overly complicated. I could not give this app to a person of a not technical disposition and expect them to navigate it, it would be for this reason alone that a person is likely to the camera back in a box never to see the light of day again.

- Menus and Sub-menus:

The is no logic to the location of items within the menu structure. I’ll give you a simple example: If the memory card is full and you need to format it, the menu structure is ridiculous.

In Summary:

I could wax lyrical about this but I simply don’t have the time nor inclination and I think that about sum it up. Software should be easy to use. There are so many software app these days all following the same formula; and that’s not because it’s easier it’s because the end user recognises the menu structure and processes to enable them to immediately understand and use the software. GoPro doesn’t do this.

I’m sure that hardened GoPro users are very familiar with the software and know where to find most bits, but what about everyone else.

I would suggest a complete overhaul; a ground up rebuild of the software to bring it into the modern day, 2010 has been and gone its time to get with the times GoPro!

New app useless

The old go pro app use to work so well with everything. Connecting to the GoPro, downloading content and transferring it to the cloud. Now this new app seems to be making my GoPro a useless purchase. The downloads would take almost an hour per video… and now it’s no longer pair to my GoPro. Very gutted about the new crappy software GoPro has provided 👎🏼
